Full Job Description

The appointee will share in the provision of a regional service including: regular responsibility for emergency admissions, ward consultations, telephone advice, booked admissions for investigations and day cases. These responsibilities occur during the week on-call (approx. 1:6 or about 8½ weeks in a year). During the on-call week the on-call consultant has no regular clinic commitments so will undertake business ward rounds every day. The on-call service is purely for nephrology and the service covers nephrology for the whole of the West Midlands, as above. The post holder will be asked to undertake regular outreach clinics in consultation with the team, not more frequently than 1per month ().
The appointee will be the lead for the adolescent service taking care of the teenage group who will be coming up for transition so that there will be better continuity of care. There will be a focus on Chronic Kidney Disease in this job role which will entail carrying out CKD clinics, particularly for patients with a failing transplant, but will also cut across the subspecialities for children coming up to transition. The department undertakes a number of subspeciality clinics, and the new post-holder will be expected to participate in a vasculitis clinic.
