Full Job Description

Royal Brompton Hospital is offering an exciting opportunity for a part time Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with special interest in Sleep and home mechanical ventilation. The appointee will join a team of physicians to provide specialist sleep and home mechanical ventilation management, evaluated as outpatients, day cases, sleep study review and inpatients., This role involves providing specialist services to those with sleep disorder or respiratory failure, seen as outpatients, day cases and after sleep studies as well as reporting of outpatient sleep studies and communicating those results to patients. Although not primarily a role with inpatient responsibilities the successful applicant may on occasion cover the inpatient beds allocated to sleep and ventilation also, collaborating with other consultant physicians in the care group to provide high-standard clinical care in this area, staying at the forefront of the field. Ancillary responsibilities include advancing the service, contributing to research and audits, and participating in teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Royal Brompton Hospital (RBH) is a specialist cardiothoracic centre specialising in diseases of the heart and lung, with services for adults (Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Radiology, and Thoracic Medicine) and Paediatrics. It has approximately 2,081 staff, 296 beds, 6 operating theatres, 5 catheter laboratories, a private patients' ward and extensive imaging facilities. It has a state-of-the-art diagnostic and imaging centre which as opened in the autumn of 2021. The Hospital benefits from a joint cardiac and respiratory clinical research facility and has strong links both with King's College London/ King's Health Partners and the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College.
