Full Job Description

The Urology department at Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is continuously developing is excited to offer the opportunity to appoint a dynamic Urological Surgeon on a fixed term maternity cover basis who will take part in the delivery of core elective as well as emergency urological services with a particular interest in Female Urology and daycase pathways. The successful applicant will join a busy and successful department of eight other urology consultants and a large team of middle grade doctors, junior doctors, and specialist nurses and will participate in the on-call consultant rota. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the development of the department and support innovative service developments including overseeing the implementation of one stop clinics, improvements in day case rates, 28 day faster cancer diagnosis targets, as well as the adoption of PIFU models. There are 2 weekly local cancer / specialist MDMs. In addition, the unit participates in regional cancer site specific MDMs using video conferencing to ensure that National Peer Review guidelines are met and are in the process of establishing an effective Urology Area Network in collaboration with the other Trusts within our ICS., The new appointee would be expected to bolster the department's academic profile which is active in clinical research and has had many national and international presentations and publications to date.

We provide emergency and non-emergency services to the residents of East Surrey, North-East West Sussex, and South Croydon, including the major towns of Crawley, Horsham, Reigate, and Redhill; a community of over 535,000 people. We provide acute and complex services and a range of outpatient, diagnostic services whilst Crawley Hospital and Horsham in West Sussex and Caterham Dene Hospital and Oxted Health Centre in Surrey provide less complex planned services.
