This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic hand and wrist surgeon to join a committed Hand and Wrist service in a major trauma centre. This is locum full time post for 12 months. This post involves working in a busy trauma directorate with 4 other hand and wrist consultant colleagues; the post holder will provide a comprehensive hand and wrist trauma and elective service to UHNM. UHNM is a Major Trauma Centre that serves the population of Staffordshire, Shropshire, South Cheshire and North Wales. The post holder will take responsibility for the inpatient and outpatient care of trauma/ orthopaedic - hand and wrist patients, including the provision of emergency trauma and orthopaedic care, including on calls.
UHNM Trauma Directorate works closely with the prestigious Keele Medical School and there will be an opportunity for the post holder to contribute to medical student teaching. We also have a vast network of allied health professionals.
The post holder will be expected to take an appropriate share in the management and administrative workload of the Department. All Consultants are involved in planning and developing the service.
On 10th July 2023, UHNM opened the doors of the North Midlands Hand Centre (NMHC) to the public with a £5million investment from NHSEI. Since then, more than 600 surgeries have been performed at the centre. The is a bespoke stand-alone unit which allows the trust to carry out day case hand and wrist surgeries under awake regional/local anaesthetic. This includes both trauma and elective surgeries. We have been part of the Hands First project run by RCS England and are currently part of Hand First2 QI project. We currently offer wrist arthroscopy, arthroplasty in hand and wrist, peripheral nerve surgery, surgery for upper limb spasticity,
