The highly regarded and forward-thinking radiology department at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a locum Neuro-radiologist to provide maternity cover.

The role will predominantly involve diagnostic neuroradiology, including stroke and neurology MDTs, with contributions to the general inpatient and outpatient workload in the department, both in and out of hours.

The role will be based in Winchester, where the stroke service is based, though there may also be sessions in Andover or Basingstoke.

The successful candidate will a need to have experience in diagnostic neuroradiology but will also undertake a share of the plain film reporting, ultrasound, CT and MRI workload. The successful candidate will be an HHFT Consultant and may be asked to work at any of our sites (Basingstoke, Winchester or Andover). The precise details will be agreed in a job plan, and we are usually able to accommodate reasonable requests. You will be expected to participate in the diagnostic on-call rota in Winchester.

All Radiologists are very much encouraged to contribute to the running of the department. This is rewarded with SPA allocation that will be allocated according to the level of contribution. We have regular discrepancy (REALM) meetings, Consultant meetings and quarterly strategy meetings which are now largely online.

There is a career progression framework in place for radiographers and RDAs at HHFT Radiology. We currently have four plain film reporting radiographers, a team of sonographers including one Consultant Sonographer. We aim to be the regional imaging provider and employer of choice.

We use Sectra PACS and CRIS as part of the SWASH+ consortium (HHFT, Southampton, Portsmouth, Salisbury, Isle of Wight and Southern Health), and Talking Point voice recognition software across HHFT Radiology. All HHFT radiologists have access to pooled administration and IT support.

Across HHFT we currently have 5 static CT scanners and 3 static MRI scanners (details below). This includes a private imaging facility on the Basingstoke site (Candover Clinic) which is part of the NHS trust and offers general X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI. Insignia PACS, CRIS and Talking point Voice Recognition are integrated across HHFT (PACS system undergoing replacement currently). Home-reporting workstations are provided for all Consultant Radiologists to facilitate the on-call service, flexible reporting and additional voluntary reporting ('insourcing').

The diagnostic on-call runs from 1700 - 2000 weekdays and 0900 - 2000 at the weekend, a separate rota for each site. An out of hours IR service is provided via a regional network with Frimley Health Foundation Trust.

The trust has recently committed to a multi-million pound programme of investment to refresh diagnostic imaging equipment over the next 10 years. The department has already benefited from a completely new fleet of Ultrasound machines, new X-ray rooms, and a new CT scanner. Two new MRI scanners are to be installed at the end of 2023.
