Full Job Description

  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
  • To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
  • To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
  • Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
  • Supervise and train junior medical staff.
  • To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
  • Teaching, research and administration.
  • To proactively develop the service.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

  • Leicester has a high reputation for the provision of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. The successful candidate will become a member of a large and highly rated musculoskeletal unit which currently has 41 Consultants covering the whole range of subspecialty interests. We also have an extended multi-disciplinary team of extended scope physiotherapists and advanced nurse practitioners. Leicester has one of the busiest Emergency departments in the country seeing over 150 000 new patients per year. The successful candidate will be a member of the general on-call rota (1 in 20) providing trauma care . Emergency work is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Elective work will be undertaken at the Leicester General Hospital. There are great opportunities for research and teaching. The University of Hospitals of Leicester is a major acute teaching hospital trust. Close links exist with local Universities and NHS Trusts. Leicester is an active partner in the local regional academic and clinical networks. The post holder will be expected to help supervise and support Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Specialty Registrars based in Leicester.

    You will perform spinal surgeons but other subspecialty interests will be supported where possible. We are a forward thinking team with drive and desire to provide the best clinical care for patients and families from our locality and beyond and you will join and existing MDT of 6 surgeons and extended scope physiotherapist Phsycian associate, secretarial and administration staff, as well as registrars and a foundation year doctors. The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the whole population of Leicestershire. It is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for consultants., £99,532 to £131,964 a year Consultant rate dependent on experience
