Full Job Description

We are seeking a colleague who has been specifically trained in Thoracic Surgery who will complement the existing service. Other than the weekly surgical activity, the aims of this job is to also have a prominent role in the perioperative management of patients undergoing Thoracic surgery, focusing on improving clinical outcomes, reducing complication rates and improve the perioperative patient care. To provide a single and solid point of contact for primary and secondary care to ensure the individual needs of the Thoracic patient is the goal of the present post along with the need for surgical patients to be carefully coordinated from the time of contemplation of surgery to a period of many months following the operation., The new appointee will work alongside the current Thoraccic surgeons to ensure a comprehensive and co-ordinated service. They will also be expected to help in establishing stronger links with our partner hospitals, and this will entail travel to these.
The Consultant will be appraised in their clinical role and advice and support for career progression will be available by the Clinical Director/Head of Service and Lead Clinicians.

We deliver a high quality of specialist care in particular; cancer, renal and Cardio-Thoracic services, having both a national and international reputation. We are at the forefront of many research programs and new surgical procedures including the research into diabetes, genetics, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and the keyhole heart valve surgery. We are also excited for the implementation of our Robotic Surgery.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
