Come and join our innovative, high-performing and supportive team., To provide a comprehensive uveitis service including complex outpatient clinics along with specialist surgical management (acute), training provision will be provided as required.
To clinically support and educate a multi-disciplinary team of trainees, Trust doctors, Optometrists, Orthoptists and Nurse Practitioners.

· The candidate is expected to carry out 6 outpatient clinics per week. These clinics will predominantly be uveitis based, but 2 clinical sessions will be to support other subspecialties, namely retinal and emergency eye care.
· Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff and support the development/training for HCS, AHPs and ANPs.
· The Consultant may be required to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues and to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances to ensure the safe running of the Department.
· The unit uses Open Eyes (Electronic Patient Record) to store, report and record activity though paper notes are still utilised across some sub specialities while modules are developed further to make it fit for purpose. The appointee will have the opportunity to contribute to all areas of innovation within their own specialty and across the whole service.
· To be accountable for their own practice and utilise available opportunities to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence.
· To maintain accurate clinical records and medico-legal requirements.
· Ensure all work is carried out in accordance to Trust and Departmental policies / procedures / standards / guidelines and protocol.
· To maintain and update skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education.
Candidate will have access to educational programme and training through the Education centre, departmental educational meetings, clinical governance sessions and postgraduate library for personal learning.
· Practice within the GMC Guidelines; in particular, those contained within the publications Good Medical Practice and Maintaining Higher Professional Standards and undergo annual appraisals.
· To participate in and lead on departmental audit, research and / or projects. To share the findings across the team and encourage publication of results.
· Subject to the provision of the Terms and Conditions of Service, to observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures, drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.
· To engage in local and national forums to develop practice and raise the profile of the service and Trust.
· It is expected that the post-holder will have an interest in and active role in teaching. The Department is
involved in teaching medical staff of all grades. Active participation in teaching and mentorship of Nurse Practitioners and AHPs is also expected
On-Call Rota
The successful candidate will be flexible to provide cover to the existing consultant team to provide emergency cover on a 1:9 basis 2^nd on call (additional 0.4PA and 3% supplement on call)

We are looking to appoint a full-time, locum Consultant specialising in uveitis for 12 months, providing all medical management within this sub-specialty and who will fit in well with the current team.
The Ophthalmology Unit at the Royal Bolton Hospital sees approximately 15,000 new patients a year and approximately 41,000 follow up appointments. Serving the local population of Bolton and neighbouring areas, it provides a range of ophthalmic services.
With its own dedicated Theatres and Outpatient environment, the Unit continues to develop, transform and innovate in how it meets the needs of service users. A significant £1.1 million investment was made to re-design the environment and capacity of the Unit to include additional clinic rooms, diagnostic suite and imaging area. The aim is to improve flow and allow more activity to take place in the unit.
The Unit is made up of a team of approximately 125 staff ranging from Nurses, Advance Nurse Practitioners, Theatre staff, Technicians, Administrative staff, Doctors, Trainees, Optometrists, Orthoptists and Support staff.
