Full Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Speciality doctor in Psychiatry to join our friendly and supportive team here in the East Kent Liaison Psychiatry Service! As a Doctor in Liaison Psychiatry, you will be involved in delivering a high-quality clinical service to patients presenting with mental health problems to the A& e department and wards of the general hospital. You will see patients aged over 18 attending with a diverse variety of clinical presentations. East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is a large provider of acute and specialist services that serves a population of over 750,000 across Dover, Canterbury, Thanet, Shepway and Ashford. You will be working at one of the two main hospitals - William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, or Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. You will work collaboratively with a team of professionals who work as a single point of contact for the mental health needs of patients attending the Emergency Department or admitted to the hospital. Successful applicants should preferably have four years of experience as a qualified doctor, with two years in Psychiatric roles. Contact us if you are unsure whether your experience would qualify. You will be fully registered with the GMC, and preferably be approved under S12(2) under the Mental Health Act (or be working towards this in your PDP). Main duties of the job 1. To provide psychiatric care to patients referred to the Liaison Psychiatry Service. 2. To provide medical input to the Multidisciplinary Liaison Team. 3. Availability to act as Section 12(2) approved doctor for the purpose of Mental Health Act assessments - where approved. If not approved then to work towards Section 12(2) approval. 4. To ensure effective liaison occurs between mental health services and the acute hospital, and also with other agencies in the voluntary and statutory sectors as appropriate. 5. To help deliver a programme of training and education for acute hospital staff and mental health staff.

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.

  • MRCPsych OR a specialist qualification from an EU country that complies with EU directive 2005/36/EU.

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 6 months of appointment, Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative, At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in core psychiatry training programme
  • Good knowledge in specialty
  • Good clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
