Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Tier 2 level (middle grade) Locum Specialty doctor to join our already established Specialty Doctor team. The post holder will be working with our Acute Consultant Paediatricians, Neonatologists and Specialist nursing teams to support our General Paediatric and Neonatal service. The post will also offer you the opportunity to develop a specialist interest or take on departmental responsibilities according to your personal preference, for example in education, or an acute specialty such as Nephrology, as well as service development.
The post holder will take part in out of hours resident work on the tier 2 (middle grade) Rota, as well as daytime activities appropriate to their expertise and interests.
If you think this post may be for you, we would love to meet or talk to you. This post may also be suitable for someone wishing to work less than full time., Senior medical input to the Children's Wards, Paediatric Assessment Unit and Day Unit, including
Assessing children referred by GPs for an urgent paediatric opinion
Practical Procedures to include advanced life support, venepuncture, cannulation, LP and placement of I.O needle
Cranial USS, bladder USS and cardiac echo are beneficial and encouraged to be developed
Teaching and training junior doctors and nurses, and supervising the tier 1 doctors in the course of their work
Supporting the Advanced Nurse Practitioners
Providing cover for tier 1 and 2 doctors when attending protected teaching sessions
Participation in the middle grade on-call rota for General Paediatrics and Neonates, You will be joining a strong team of clinicians committed to the delivery of excellent general paediatric and subspecialty services. The department is made up of Acute Paediatrics, Neurodisability and Neonatology. It is very well integrated with a great deal of joint working around complex clinical cases as well as on training, teaching undergraduates, research and clinical governance. Support and supervision for safeguarding is available, with a safeguarding rota Monday to Friday., To actively participate in clinical governance and risk management processes
To promote evidence-based practice; to respond appropriately to NICE guidance; to change own and others' clinical practice in response to new clinical developments
To undertake and supervise relevant clinical Quality Improvement projects in line with Departmental Objectives
To remain up to date and engaged in continuing professional development (CPD) as per Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and General Medical Council guidelines
To respond appropriately to complaints and critical incidents
To undertake all work in accordance with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust procedures and operating policies
To attend accredited conferences and meetings to update personal level of clinical practice, teaching and management skills in line with Continuing Medical Education requirements

To provide medical information for the development of systems appropriate for Trust needs
To participate in departmental consultant and senior staff meetings whilst remaining within the framework of the agreed strategy of the Trust and the Department
To attend other departmental, Divisional and Trust meetings as necessary
To attend regional and national as necessary
To undertake all work in accordance with Trust procedures and operating policies
