Lung Cancer Screening Programme Primary Care Lead

People aged 55 to 74 who are current or former smokers will be invited to have a lung cancer screen in Dorset, via the Dorset Lung Cancer Screening Programme. Lung health checks are an important check-up of the overall health of your lungs and can spot any early signs of lung problems. The checks are designed to spot any signs of lung problems early - often before you notice anything is wrong. If lung cancer, or another problem with your breathing or lungs is found early, treatment could be simpler and more successful.

This post will act as the programme primary care link, to include support with establishing the programme, rolling it out, monitoring the results from it, and education of primary care teams in Dorset about the Lung cancer screening programme.

This position will give the postholder an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to the leadership of a project to identify asymptomatic people, providing early diagnosis of both lung cancer and other lung diseases and then planning appropriate follow-up, The post holder will be an integral role supporting the programme operating with a robust governance structure.

To support the Clinical Director in the strategic development of the Lung cancer screening programme.

To provide clinical leadership to ensure the programme operates within national protocols.
