Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse to join the existing team in a permanent post. You will support the team in providing expert nursing and supportive care to patients and their families throughout the lung cancer journey from time of initial referral, through diagnostic investigations, treatment and into end stage care. You will work in a collaborative way to ensure implementation of the National Optimal Lung Cancer pathway and Faster Diagnosis cancer initiative to meet set targets by assisting in the proactive management of patients through the pathway. You will support and contribute to the development and promotion of the lung cancer nursing service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care.,

  • Be competent in discussing diagnosis and treatment options with new patients
  • Work with other key staff within the MDT to develop a seamless service for patients prior to and with a diagnosis of lung cancer.
  • Provide professional support to nursing colleagues during the care of patients diagnosed with lung cancer.
  • Support and contribute to the development and promotion of the lung cancer nursing service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care.
  • Actively participate in and work alongside the multi-professional team to provide a professional service that meets the needs of patients diagnosed with lung cancer.
  • Request diagnostic investigations and interpret within agreed protocols e.g. blood tests, CT/US scans and action appropriately within competence.
  • Undertake and support holistic needs assessment of patients and carers to ensure appropriate and timely signposting.
