Full Job Description

We are looking for a registered veterinary nurse to join our team, working on a part time basis, 21 hours per week (Monday to Wednesday) with up to 1 in 3 weekends, (currently 1 in 5 Saturdays). We have excellent facilities and benefit from being next to the referral hospital, ensuring excellent access for our clients. The First opinion and referral services collaborate as a team for complete patient support, ensuring the highest standard of patient care. Duties will include inpatient care, anesthesia, radiography, laboratory work and nursing clinics. As an RCVS registered training practice and a University of Bristol teaching practice we work to support and develop student vets and nurses., Reports To: Head Nurse Job Purpose: The main purpose of the post is to support the smooth operation of the clinical activities within the Small Animal Practice. Duties will include assisting with medical and surgical procedures, performing nurse clinics, promoting client communication and supervising BVSc and VNBA students on clinical rotations. Principal Accountabilities:- - Assisting veterinary surgeons with clinical procedures - Perform nursing duties such as monitoring anaesthesia, assisting with medical & surgical procedures, assisting with consultations, patient handling and restraint, taking blood samples, placing intravenous catheters, placing bandages, cleaning wounds and removing stitches - Proper restraining and positioning of patients requiring x-rays, as well as taking radiographs when instructed by a veterinary surgeon - Dispensing and administering (under the direct supervision of a veterinary surgeon) medication to animals, maintaining accurate stock control and following all protocols relating to drug holding, dispensing and handling and giving clear and accurate instructions to clients when dispensing medication - Running and promoting nurse clinics and taking an active role in marketing the practice, to include assisting at client seminars and events - Maintaining accurate patient records with regards to all clinical notes, treatment, diagnoses, client communication and client /patient information - Ensuring that all procedures and consumables are accurately entered onto the patients' records in order to keep the invoice up to date at all times during their stay - Supporting undergraduate students on their clinical rotations - Participating in a nurse rota for 21 hours per week (Monday to Wednesday) including up to 1:3 Weekends (daytime only); the practice is open Monday - Sunday - Maintaining a good working relationship with all team members - Communicating in an effective an pleasant manner with clients and colleagues - Proactively identify and act upon opportunities for business improvement. Openly identify and discuss problems in order to implement and sustain improvements that increase the value we deliver to our clients, employees and students - Responsible for keeping themselves and others safe, reporting accidents, near misses and hazards and adhering to health and safety requirements and policies as required by the business/their line manager. - Carry out all other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager

Able to carry out veterinary nursing duties as listed in 'Responsibilities' Experience of supervising veterinary students Confidence and experience in effective handling and restraint of animals A1 assessor Registered veterinary nurse Interest in advancing own qualifications Communicating effectively with clients Ability to work within a team Ability to act independently
