Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a cancer support worker at DCH. This will appeal to a person who is keen to ensure best care for people with cancer. The acute oncology cancer support worker will work with existing members of the team to deliver a high standard acute oncology service at DCH. The service provides acute care and support for those people affected by cancer. The post holder will play an active role in the telephone support service offered to patients, family and other healthcare professions involved in the care of people affected by cancer.

Training will be given for this important aspect of care and the post holder will be fully supported and supervised by an experienced, qualified nurse. A kind, calm and confident telephone manner is vital and the ability to maintain accurate records at all times is required.

The post-holder will have opportunity to be involved with face-to-face assessment of patients, including recording vital signs, performing ECGs, simple dressings, taking swabs in addition to the taking of bloods. This will be to complement telephone triage. Any necessary training will be given to support the successful candidate.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in a clinical setting and will have achieved either an NVQ level 3 or above or equivalent qualification in a health-related subject. This role will appeal to candidates who enjoy and thrive upon working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. They will enjoy audit, data and spreadsheet input in addition to telephone communications. They will have a passion for caring for people with cancer and will be part of a team delivering care in line with Trust values in all aspects of the role., Disability Confident
