Full Job Description
The Macmillan Cancer Support Centre Manager will be a vital role in the provision of information and support service for people affected by cancer, their friends, family and health care professionals. The postholder will manage the Macmillan Cancer Support Centres (MCSC) taking the lead in the development of long-term strategy for the management and delivery.
The individual will be required to lead and line manage the MCSC's staff and volunteers, taking part in the recruitment, training and mentorship of this team whilst also acting as a specialist resource for healthcare professionals., Demonstrate advanced practice in assessing and identifying complex needs of individual clients
Provide practical and emotional advice/support to patients and carers regarding the impacts of diagnosis, treatment, or disease progression.
Communicate with service users in ways that empower them to make informed choices about their health and health care. Act as advocate for individual patients and the client group.
Develop close working relationships with existing patient support groups and work with Clinical Nurse Specialists, Macmillan and patient groups for the development of other support services.
To identify areas of need, lead and where appropriate contribute to the planning/provision of cancer information and support services for SaTH using highly developed knowledge and skills, for example new information materials/formats, patient support groups etc and develop a directory of local information.
Synthesise knowledge and expertise related to cancer patient information and support from a variety of policy, research and other sources to maintain service quality and disseminate good practice to colleagues across SaTH and Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Powys.
Initiate, develop and manage innovative methods of providing information and support to patient using a range of mediums/approaches, and assess their effectiveness through audit, ensuring service users are involved in evaluation.
