Here at the North Middlesex University Hospital we have a Macmillan Head and Neck Highly Specialist SLT post available. You will be working closely alongside other H&N MDT members and will be responsible for providing a highly specialist service for patients with dysphagia and communication impairments due to Head and Neck cancer. This will include both inpatient and outpatient settings, with the latter being based in our radiotherapy department. You will also work closely with the SLT adult acute team in the running of our Videofluoroscopy and FEEs clinics, where you will play a lead role in performing, evaluating and reporting on instrumental assessments for both inpatients and outpatients., After several years of ever closer working, North Mid and Royal Free London are planning to come together as one organisation to enable them to go further and faster in improving services for patients and the health of the local community than they can achieve separately. The merger of North Mid into the RFL group is currently expected to take place on 1 January 2025, subject to NHS England and Secretary of State approval. North Mid is part of North Central London integrated care system - consisting of the NHS and Local authority organisations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. As with other ICS's, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. Whilst all organisations remain as standalone, statutory bodies we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing shared approaches. We are proud of our staff and want to ensure their training allows them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George's University Grenada, and for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities. Take a tour of our hospitalhere To provide a highly specialist SLT service to patients with acquired dysphagia and communication impairments secondary to a diagnosis of Head & Neck cancer at the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. The hospital provides services at a secondary care level, and this will mainly include patients receiving outpatient radiotherapy/chemotherapy/immunotherapy with curative and palliative intent. This includes some post-surgical patients and patients with laryngectomy or tracheostomy. · To provide highly specialist SLT assessment and treatment to patients with complex head and neck cancer/laryngectomy undergoing radiotherapy, chemotherapy or immunotherapy, operating with a high level of autonomy. · The post holder will liaise with the Head & Neck Multidisciplinary Team members and have key worker responsibilities where required. · The post holder will participate in delivering training to the Head & Neck Multidisciplinary Team, family and carers. · The post holder will contribute to learning and development for other cancer professionals and wider associated workforce.

Are you an experienced, enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist looking for your next challenge?,

  • A candidate with proven experience working with Head and Neck Cancer patients, in particular patients receiving radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy
  • Knowledge and experience of video-fluoroscopy, tracheostomy, laryngectomy management and FEEs.
  • Ability to participate and lead in the running of VF and FEEs clinics both in your area of clinical expertise as well as supporting instrumental assessment in the wider acute caseload.
  • A flexible, team player with experience of working in an MDT setting
  • Experience of supervising junior SLTs and fulfilling practice educator role
