Full Job Description

Based at our Wembley depot, you'll join a team of experienced Maintenance and Technical Support Engineers (M&TSE), supporting Alstom operations teams in delivering technical and engineering support to the operation and maintenance of the Class 92 locomotive fleet. The Class 92 fleet is serviced and maintained primarily from our Wembley (London) and Polmadie (Glasgow) Train Care Centres and supports the overnight Caledonian Sleeper service between London and Scotland.

You'll report to our Fleet Maintenance Engineering Manager and will work alongside an established cross functional core team. In this role, you'll provide the first line Engineering support for any issues that arise from maintenance or in service failures. Day-to-day, you'll be involved in leading the maintenance development of the trains we maintain. Ensuring maintenance is delivered in line with our contract, and to develop reliability improvements for the fleet.

We'll look to you to:

  • Supply engineering resource/skills to support the project

  • Collaborate with Services Central Engineering to improve the Services portfolio of products and services

  • Participate actively in collaboration with colleagues working on other fleets to share best practice and gain from each other's experience

  • Assure the technical support to the projects

  • Optimise the scope and related tasks of the Maintenance plan

  • Support cost reduction actions, with other Alstom colleagues from different departments

  • Detect, define, and implement the modifications of the trains to improve the reliability and serviceability, in order to reduce project costs and improve the performance

  • Propose innovative solutions and develops and implements new technologies in the maintenance projects

  • Analyse the technical performances of the systems and the efficiency of the maintenance plan and processes, promoting action plans to improve them

  • Propose actions to optimise Maintenance plans

  • Search for improvement actions in maintenance operations, performing engineering interface activities with Operations (depot support)

  • Analyse failure criticality studies and uses RCM (Reliability Centred Maintenance) and other available methodologies to define and optimise the maintenance requirements, tasks and intervals

  • Analyse and integrate data coming from Operations (Return on Experience)

  • Improve Services Engineering tools and processes

  • Educational Requirements
  • Minimum BTEC level 3 in Electronic Engineering/Automation Engineering or Electrical and Mechanical Engineering OR relevant experience


  • Mandatory:
  • Relevant experience in Railways system/Application engineering

  • Knowledge of rolling stock equipment


  • Desirable:
  • Knowledge of rolling stock maintenance

  • Working knowledge of safety management systems and safety risk assessment

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office

    Appointment Basis: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday working pattern.
