Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake an established, well regarded Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship from February 2025 for 6 months. Internationally renowned as a crucible of Orthopaedics, Liverpool was the home of the pioneers of orthopaedics and trauma surgery, Hugh Owen-Thomas, Robert Jones and Thomas Porter McMurray. The successful candidate will join a team of Orthopaedic professionals who remain committed to that culture of innovation today.
The department has 50 Consultant Surgeons covering the full range of Trauma & Orthopaedics, making it one of the largest UK centres. It is a tertiary referral centre for all sub-specialties except spinal services. It is the Level One Major Trauma Centre for Cheshire, Merseyside and the Isle of Man. All the surgeons are passionate about what they do and keen to develop you and your knowledge., This is a 6 month post. The goal of the Fellowship is to take a peri-CCT, or equivalent, Orthopaedic Surgeon and, in a twelve month training programme, take them to a level at which they are capable of an independent practice in orthopaedics, specialising in Trauma Surgery.
The fellowship is recognised for training and is aimed at peri-CCT, or equivalent, candidates wishing to gain further experience in Trauma Surgery, with a view to seeking a consultant post with this specialist interest. Service development may involve some alteration in the program during the attachment.
The post supports the clinical activity of the Trauma Team. The candidate will have time for research. The post offers directly supervised operating with Consultant support to practise acquired surgical skills.
Once competencies have been assessed the Trauma Fellow will take part in a 1 in 8 weekend day trauma list, with onsite supervision. This is remunerated as extra payments. This affords the successful candidate to hone their non-technical and supervisory skills in preparation for their Consultant careers.
Teaching sessions will involve case conference and teaching sessions. The fellow will be expected to attend national Trauma conferences and present research work at national and/or international meetings. There will be regular assignment of seminal literature to read and learn
