Full Job Description

We are seeking for a full time a Management Accountant to join our Financial Management team at Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. To support the Financial Management function in the provision of comprehensive, high-quality financial support across the Trust to the Service Management teams, individual budget holders, and other relevant stakeholders. Support the Senior Finance Manager and other members of the Financial Management team in the full range of their duties, and to deputise when required. The Finance team is a dynamic and vibrant group aligned with the Trust's objectives of delivering world-class services that are value for money. The team supports individual growth and development, fostering a professional learning environment and providing support for those pursuing professional accounting qualifications. This role is pivotal in helping the Finance team achieve its objectives and will be situated within the Financial Management team. The team's core functions are divided into Financial Management, Procurement, and Financial Accounting. General ledger functions are outsourced to NHS Shared Business Services (SBS). Management Accounting

  • Assist in the timely and accurate production of monthly management accounts.
  • Maintain, monitor, and develop income and expenditure budgets.
  • Prepare expenditure, income, and payroll journals for input into the general ledger.
  • Assist in budget setting, reconciliations, and establishment control.
  • Perform variance analysis on income and expenditure.
  • Hold regular budget manager meetings to provide advice and guidance.
  • Support clinical services with financial queries.
  • Planning and Organisation
  • Manage workload to meet deadlines, providing cross-cover when required.
  • Maintain tidy and organised working papers and filing systems.
  • Continuously review responsibilities to implement improvements.
  • Communication
  • Respond to finance and non-finance queries efficiently, referring complex issues as needed.
  • Develop strong relationships with budget managers and other colleagues, using negotiation and persuasive skills to resolve issues.
  • Ensure effective responses to queries and complaints from other departments.
  • Information Management
  • Manage large volumes of data accurately.
  • Assist with ad hoc training and support on accounting and Oracle issues.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place, minimising fraud risks.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Communicate with internal/external audit and other relevant bodies on financial management matters.
  • Adhere to Trust policies, guidelines, and governance requirements.
  • Ensure records are maintained in line with Trust protocols and risk assessments are completed promptly.
