Full Job Description

This position is part of the EMEA Corporate Accounting team, based in London. Overall, as a Finance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that the financial information produced is accurate, reliable, and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. You will play a key role in supporting the decision-making process by providing financial information and analysis to support strategic decisions. As a Finance Manager at Carlyle, you will be responsible for the monthly management accounts Local GAAP and US GAAP, and will be required to prepare reliable, timely and complete monthly management accounts in PeopleSoft for various UK entities. You will be required to prepare statutory financial statements and returns. You will be responsible for ensuring that all financial information is accurate, complete and in compliance with relevant local GAAP and tax laws. The Corporate Finance function at Carlyle is a dynamic and hardworking team. As a manager in this team your role will have managerial and supervision responsibilities for junior colleagues, including review and approval of journals, VAT returns, tax computations, management accounts, regulatory returns, and ad hoc work.Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities Responsibilities include: 1. Management Entity and General Partner Structure (~15 entities) management accounts under Local and US GAAP - To prepare reliable, timely and complete management accounts for the assigned UK legal entities.

  • Prepare and post journal entries into the PeopleSoft general ledger within the monthly reporting timetable including revenue accounting, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, current tax and deferred tax
  • Prepare monthly management accounts to include full reconciliation of the balance sheet accounts and month on month variance analysis
  • Coordinate with US Corporate and Partnership Accounting team on monthly close matters (ex. intercompany reconciliations, management fee calculations, etc.)
  • Liaison with different functional areas such as Tax, Treasury, Payroll and AP department
  • Provide assistance and review management accounts of junior staff
  • 2. Statutory financial statements and returns for Management Entity and GP Structure entities - To prepare annual financial statements for UK entities, to assist in preparation of statutory and regulatory returns as required by local GAAP and tax laws in a timely manner.
  • Prepare annual financial statements for ~15 entities
  • Prepare and manage the preparation of audit working papers
  • Prepare quarterly regulatory returns for management entity
  • Prepare Partnership tax returns
  • Assist in preparation of annual transfer pricing calculations and reporting
  • Liaising with external service providers and accountants, where necessary
  • Coordinate accounting, tax returns and related payments matters with external accountants and AP team
  • 3. Management and supervision (one or two direct report)
  • Providing ongoing feedback, reviews, mentoring and training
  • Review and approval of journals, quarterly group VAT return (partially exempt), tax computations, management accounts, regulatory returns, and adhoc work.
  • 4. Projects - Assist in ongoing Integration of acquisition entity structure
  • Build out processes and templates to operationalize monthly reporting, liasing with teams across the firm to create efficiencies
  • Ensure data completeness in all systems around bank accounts
  • Identify and implement improvements to all reporting and internal control procedures
  • 5. Budgeting and Forecasting-Assist with the preparation of the draft budget and re-forecast reports on annual and quarterly basis respectively
  • Coordinate with various parts of the business to collect required data
  • Analyze actuals and budgeted cost to date for quarterly reforecasts

    Accounting or Finance degree
  • 3 years plus post qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Professional Experience
  • 3 years plus of public accounting and / or private company with statutory and management accounting experience
  • Experience within financial services sector
  • Position-specific Technical Requirements
  • Knowledge of Local GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP
  • Strong statutory accounts experience
  • Ability to approach technical problems in a thorough and logical manner
  • General Ledger/ Financial System experience and strong Microsoft Office skills in particular Excel
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
