Full Job Description

Market Supervision forms part of the Market Regulation department which is responsible for regulating all the markets operated by LSE plc (the Recognised Investment Exchange). Market Supervision is responsible for monitoring secondary market trading on London Stock Exchange ("LSE"), Turquoise Global Holdings Limited ("TGHL") and Turquoise Global Holdings Europe B.V ("TGHE"). Additionally, post trade surveillance is carried out for FXall, Matching and other Refinitiv trading venues. Market Supervision is currently divided into five sub-teams which monitor activity on our markets on both a real time and post trade basis and enhance our surveillance systems to do so. The purpose of Market Supervision is to ensure that trading is orderly and efficient, and in compliance with the Exchange's rules ("the rules") and to identify activity which may indicate market abuse as outlined in the UK Financial Conduct Authority's Code of Market Conduct and MAR. Aside from Market Supervision, Market Regulation also acts as 'competent authority' for AIM from a primary market perspective, regulates the Nomads and manages the AIM rules as well as controlling admission to the Main Market under the Exchange's Admission and Disclosure standards. The role reports into the Live supervision, Rules & Post Trade Senior Manager and is responsible for supporting the real time supervision of trading by member firms on all LSEG equity and fixed income trading platforms.,

  • Performs detailed analysis of real-time and post-trade trading on respective LSEG trading venues, and as relevant will initiate new ways of working and ideas for analysis. They will also help the team develop its analysis capabilities, and support the learning and development of others in this regard;
  • Will be responsible for people management and/or management of workstreams;
  • Ensures the real-time function is operational at all times during core market hours;
  • Helps Senior Manager ensure that procedures and processes are up-to-date and fit for purpose;
  • Leads on the interaction with Member Firms, representing LSEG Market Supervision with internal stakeholders and less complex issues externally;
  • Works with large datasets, identifies unusual trading patterns, investigates potential market abuse and prepares referrals to regulatory authorities;
  • Proactively identifies and escalates market events, such as trading halts or trade cancellations. Attends technical calls and business calls as appropriate and attends Service/Post incident review discussions on behalf of MSU;
  • Holds advanced knowledge of LSEG's rule books, trading system parameters and technical mechanisms and opines on changes;
  • Holds extensive knowledge of applicable European regulation (MiFIR, MiFID, MAR) and respective application to LSEG trading venues, awareness of upcoming changes to legislation and circulars from regulator. Is able to proactively identify any ensuing gaps, and help team change its process/procedures as a result, and,
  • Deals with more complex cases and provides support for more junior members of the team.

    Educated to degree level or 'A' level (or equivalent) with relevant industry experience;
  • Good people management skills;
  • Good analytical skills. Able to think quickly and evaluate information with sound judgement, attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to progress issues on a timely basis, be flexible and prioritise competing work flows;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, both internally and externally; and
  • A genuine interest in financial markets.
  • Desirable
  • Previous experience gained in a Market Supervision or compliance environment;
  • Knowledge of multiple asset classes;
  • Experience of assisting in the implementing of new software or changes to existing software (e.g. conducting User Acceptance Testing);
  • Experience at using different types of software, particularly Excel
