Full Job Description

  • Our growing corporate debt team is looking for an experienced finance lawyer (5+yrs PQE) to join our team in London.
  • The role includes both lender side and borrower side work, funding the working capital requirements and more strategic actions (including acquisitions) of large businesses.
  • Borrowers are typically UK headquartered but have an international footprint. They are drawn from a wide range of industries.
  • THE TEAM:
  • Our finance group has a strong (and growing) City presence and market-leading teams across the rest of the UK. Additionally, we have a significant presence in Ireland, France, Germany and the Middle East. In the UK, there are 30 partners and over 85 other lawyers.
  • The wider team acts for a wide variety of UK and international banks, debt funds, alternative lenders and large-scale borrowers.
  • In addition to corporate debt, the wider group includes leveraged finance, funds finance, speciality finance, asset based lending, asset finance, project finance, real estate finance, debt capital markets, social housing finance, social and sustainable finance and structured finance and derivatives.
  • WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
  • With support from a partner, you will take primary responsibility for drafting and negotiating finance documents, managing transaction process and supervising the contribution of less experienced colleagues.
  • Your technical expertise must be a given. Additionally, we aim to deploy imagination. You will therefore be expected to be client focused. This goes beyond excellent and tailored transaction management and (for example) includes being curious and informed about the borrower's industry and business (and related opportunities and challenges) and thinking about how AI and other tools may be harnessed to improve the overall service
  • Fostering and growing client relationships and developing new ones is an integral part of this role. You can expect to collaborate not only with colleagues in the direct team but also with debt capital markets, structured finance and derivatives colleagues as well as colleagues immersed in relevant industry groups (for example the retail and consumer industry, professional services industry and healthcare industry).
  • Continuous self-development is valued and you will be encouraged to engage with formal training programmes (whether technical or skills based) and to draw on mentoring, coaching and leadership development programmes available to you.
  • As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to generously share your time, knowledge and experience to develop less experienced colleagues.

have at least 5+ years PQE relevant to role described above
  • be very familiar with Loan Market Association documents and English law security documents, both from the perspective of drafting and negotiating
  • be enthusiastic, resilient and collaborative.
  • communicate with clarity and be able to tailor your communication style appropriately.
  • be thorough and detail focused
  • be able to manage process, risk and people adeptly
  • remain calm and optimistic in time sensitive situations or under pressure
  • be committed to continuous learning and
  • be inquisitive and want to understand our clients, their personal and business drivers and the business challenges and opportunities they face.
