Full Job Description

The Managing Director will provide leadership and strategic direction for Dorset Cricket, ensuring cricket's long-term sustainability and growth across the County. The role oversees all operational, financial, and developmental aspects of the organisation. The Managing Director will lead Dorset Cricket in delivering key priorities, from grassroots to representative cricket, driving participation, increasing revenue streams, and enhancing Dorset's standing within the broader cricketing landscape. Working closely with the Board of Directors and key partners, the Managing Director will be instrumental in maintaining Dorset Cricket's reputation and, The Managing Director will provide leadership and strategic direction for Dorset Cricket, ensuring cricket's long-term sustainability and growth across the County. Working closely with the Board of Directors and key partners, the Managing Director will be instrumental in maintaining Dorset Cricket's reputation and fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and community engagement. Key Responsibilities: 1. Leadership and Strategic Development:

  • Lead the development and execution of the Dorset Cricket strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) national strategy and local priorities.
  • Drive growth in diverse participation across all levels of cricket, from recreational to representative cricket, ensuring that Dorset Cricket remains a key player in regional and national cricket.
  • Ensure Dorset Cricket's vision, mission, and values are embedded across all areas of the organisation.
  • Ensure the organisation is agile and forward-thinking, consistently seeking ways to innovate and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the Board to review and develop long-term strategic objectives, regularly providing detailed reports on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • 2. Financial and Commercial Management:
  • Oversee all financial operations, ensuring effective budget management, compliance with financial regulations, and achievement of revenue targets.
  • Lead the development of commercial strategies to diversify income streams, maximising revenue from sponsorship, partnerships, fundraising, and other commercial opportunities.
  • Ensure financial sustainability by developing new commercial initiatives, including corporate partnerships, match-day income, non-cricket event revenues, and other business ventures.
  • Collaborate with local businesses, authorities, and the ECB to secure grants, sponsorships, and commercial agreements that benefit Dorset Cricket.
  • Work with the Finance Director to present financial updates to the Board, ensuring all financial operations are transparent, well-documented, and meet regulatory requirements.
  • 3. Cricket Development and Performance:
  • Oversee cricket development at all levels, ensuring that programmes are inclusive and promote opportunities for everyone, including underrepresented groups such as women and girls and people with disabilities.
  • Ensure a high quality and accessible talent pathway exists within Dorset Cricket that closely links to our senior representative sides, professional cricket club partners and the ECB.
  • Work closely with the Director of Cricket, coaches, and other key staff to ensure that all cricket operations are delivered to a high standard, ensuring consistency in coaching, player development, and team performance.
  • Foster strong relationships with clubs and cricket networks across the county and our region to increase participation and improve the quality of cricket played at all levels.
  • 4. Governance and Compliance:
  • Ensure Dorset Cricket operates within the highest standards of governance and complies with all legal and regulatory frameworks, including those set by the ECB and relevant authorities.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal governance structures, ensuring transparency, accountability, and good practice in all organisational operations.
  • Ensure the organisation's safeguarding practices meet all statutory requirements, particularly in areas concerning young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Oversee the implementation of health and safety policies, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory standards and promoting a safe environment for staff, players, and the public.
  • Ensure that EDI practices are embedded across the organisation.
  • 5. People Leadership and Organisational Culture:
  • Provide inspiring and authentic leadership across all levels of Dorset Cricket, promoting a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and high performance.
  • Lead and manage a diverse team of employees, volunteers, and contractors, ensuring the effective delivery of Dorset Cricket's objectives.
  • Create and maintain a working environment where all staff feel valued and supported in their professional development, with clear lines of responsibility and accountability.
  • Foster an inclusive culture within Dorset Cricket, promoting diversity in all areas, and ensuring that the sport is accessible to all, regardless of their race, disability, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation or background.
  • 6. Stakeholder and Community Engagement:
  • Act as the primary representative and spokesperson for Dorset Cricket, ensuring the organisation has a strong, positive presence across the region and beyond.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clubs, community groups, local authorities, the ECB, and national cricketing bodies.
  • Work to grow and sustain partnerships with local businesses, schools, and other organisations that can support Dorset Cricket's mission.
  • Oversee communications strategies that promote cricket throughout Dorset, ensuring transparency and effective engagement with members, the public, and the media.
  • Represent Dorset Cricket at key events, ensuring its reputation is maintained as a respected and valued organisation in the sporting community.
  • 7. Partnerships and Marketing:
  • Lead Dorset Cricket's marketing and public relations activities to ensure the organisation is well-promoted locally and nationally.
  • Oversee the development of marketing strategies that enhance Dorset Cricket's brand, increasing awareness, and attracting new participants, fans, and partners.
  • Ensure that Dorset Cricket's digital and social media presence is effectively managed, growing engagement with the local and cricketing communities.
  • Lead on new initiatives to enhance fan engagement, increasing match-day attendance and creating a vibrant community atmosphere around Dorset Cricket.

    Leadership: Proven experience as a senior leader within a sports or business environment, demonstrating the ability to inspire, lead, and motivate diverse teams.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong financial management skills, with a track record of developing commercial strategies and generating sustainable revenue.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to develop and implement long-term strategic plans that align with organisational objectives and enhance cricket's profile in the region.
  • Stakeholder Management: Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Operational Excellence: A background in managing complex operations, ensuring high standards in both cricketing and business contexts.
  • Governance: Strong understanding of governance, compliance, and risk management, with experience in overseeing safeguarding, health & safety, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Inclusion and Diversity: A deep commitment to EDI and promoting inclusion, ensuring that cricket is accessible to all and that all cricketers feel valued.
  • Desirable:
  • Cricket Knowledge: While not essential, a passion for cricket and an understanding of the sport's development pathways will be advantageous.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Experience of developing strategic partnerships with commercial and not for profit organisations to diversity and increase revenue streams
  • Digital and Marketing Expertise: Experience in leveraging digital platforms and innovative marketing strategies to grow an organisation's profile.
  • Local Knowledge: Knowledge of Dorset and its communities, with established networks in the region., Willingness to travel within the UK, and to work unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends
