Anexciting opportunity has arisen for an existing band 4 or band 2 / 3 healthprofessional wanting to join the Manual Handling Advisory Service (MHAS) in aManual Handling Practitioner capacity (band 4).The MHAS team provides a comprehensive service for the organisationincluding a significant training programme for all clinical staff from mandatorytraining through to a more specialised facilitator training. The teams main focus is toeliminate avoidable manual handling incidents through teaching, extensive auditprogrammes and advise clinical areas and individuals following manual handlingincidents. Inaddition to this the team provides professional advice to clinical areas andindividuals with the aim to prevent or reduce the impact of MSK injuries tostaff and patients. The team also advises on the purchase of manual handlingequipment and supports departments with complex risk assessments. Main duties of the job The team plays a significant role in patientsafety and is involved in proactively managing risk in relation to manualhandling and reducing patient and staff injuries. The post holder will beresponsible for the delivery of manual handling training across theorganisation and will assist with the delivery of strategies to ensuredepartments are completing appropriate and safe moving and handling. As part ofa small team respond to department queries relating to moving and handling., Participatein teaching and delivering of training packages to all CDDFT staff in movingand handling principles. Audit data collection andinputting. Work alongside the TrustsStaff Health and Wellbeing Strategy. Demonstrate professionalaccountability through reflection of their own practice, researching new manualhandling equipment and ergonomic information to promote musculoskeletal health. First point of contact forstaff contacting the manual handling advisory service. Involvement with newequipment procurement and assessment

  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent knowledge gained through experience.
  • Mimimum of 5 GCSEs (A-C,4-9) including Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Evidence of working in a health care setting.
  • Health and Safety Legislation knowledge
  • Desirable
  • Teaching- certificate or currently working toward : such as : ENB 997 / 998 / 730 or other eg PTLLS (equivalent of Level 3 Award in Education and Training).
  • Attended Manual Handling Facilitator Training or experience of the role.
  • Special Requirements Essential
  • Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post.
  • Experience Essential
  • Substantial patient handling experience in a health care setting or similar experience.
  • Experience in teaching / mentoring and presentation skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of manual handling including load handling and patient handling activities.
  • IT literate and computer skills.
  • Experience of teaching and presentation skills.
  • Health and Safety Legislation knowledge.
  • Effective communication skills and evidence of team work.
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team / patient and their cares.
  • Desirable
  • Manual Handling Facilitator or experience of the role.
  • Evidence of additional manual handling training courses attended.
  • Audit experience.
  • Special Skills and Knowledge Essential
  • Physically fit to partake in the practical element of patient handling activities, training delivery and equipment handling and its use.
  • Prioritisation of workload effectively.
  • Capable of working in a demanding environment.
  • To take on additional responsibilities in department area of speciality.

  • Teaching qualification (998 or C&G) or relevant teaching experience / mentoring experience within the workplace.
