The Regional Engagement Maritime role is focused initially on the Liverpool & Merseyside region to work with the Civic leadership, Universities, companies and trade bodies to develop a portfolio of projects to transform maritime in the area, starting with the outputs from the Green Shipping Corridor work in Spring 2024. The job holder will be the CPC's primary representative in the region for maritime related activity, Including multi modal transport of people and goods across the region that utilise maritime assets. The region has a burning ambition to capitalise on Its existing maritime assets and transformative drivers to deliver high value economic growth, invest in RD&I, improve productivity in shipbuilding and logistics, reduce environmental Impact In particular greenhouse gas emissions, and to create healthy and safe places to work. The CPC Is Invited by the stakeholders and civic leadership in the region to work strategically with them on developing a Maritime Innovation Action Plan to dovetail with the Regional Industrial Strategy and create an Investible delivery plan. Many of the stakeholders to this Plan have nascent plans to deliver against targets and would benefit from engaging the CPC to support them. This role Is a convening and facilitating role in the first Instance, to convene Inputs from a diverse range of stakeholders through CPC facilitated engagement. This will necessitate working as part of an external team on the development of the Maritime Innovation Action Plan, being led by the Liverpool Region Combined Authority. You will be responsible for the co-creation of a portfolio of projects, developed with key stakeholders, with a clear scope, benefits pathway, outcomes and credible suggestions for how this will be delivered. If successful, this role will develop into a delivery focused role working with our Sales and Engagement team to create and initiate distinct projects with CPC Inputs to feed Into the CPC Delivery team. In line with our CPC Strategy much of this work will relate to projects to decarbonise 'heavy' transport and exploit digital technologies to Improve productivity, and Introduce autonomy, safely. You will benefit from working closely with our Maritime Sales Lead, our Regional Engagement and Partnerships Manager and our Director of Regions whom are based In the region, and our close partners at the HVMC, Universities and Mersey Maritime. You must therefore be adept at working with diverse mixed teams, and be comfortable to listen and respond with Insights, to help ensure an Inclusive process Is undertaken to assemble a clear plan of action from what will no doubt be a convoluted set of messages. You must have a good working knowledge of trends and markets in the global maritime sector and appreciate how this might materialise as transformational Influences In the region. The key output from this role in Year 1 will be a stakeholder and LCRA endorsed Maritime Innovation Action Plan for Liverpool City Region, which has substantive direction and Input from the CPC. This will be accompanied with a portfolio of projects with outline business cases, and with markers on where the CPC can be party to the delivery - either through the Milestone programme (CPC Core programme) or direct commissioning.,

  • Representing the CPC Maritime team, develop relationships with key stakeholders to Innovation In maritime In the Liverpool and North West region.
  • Support CPC colleagues to engage effectively with the City Region. Working closely with CPC leads, drive relevant programme delivery, including across Global, Academic, SME and Ecosystem Directors related to the maritime sector.
  • Support the Regional Engagement and Partnerships Manager In their activities, where they relate to the maritime sector specifically, and more generally support each other In becoming an effective team.
  • Providing Insights on opportunities for regional maritime related projects and CPC service offerings to the Sales team and Regional team.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with Local, Regional and Central Government, helping promote the aims and ambitions of the Region within national agendas in relation to maritime.
  • Organise or support maritime and transport events being held In the region with CPC Input or hosting including webinars, roundtables, dinners and site visits as well as supporting potential digital media communications ensuring information is relevant and up to date. Responsibilities may Include finding speakers or preparing and giving presentations.
  • Identify opportunities for funding and co-ordinate bids to support the development of projects and activities for CPC, underpinning the aims of the Maritime Innovation Action Plan.
  • Meeting and recording key contacts In the CRM and maintaining good communication with them.
  • Briefing the Milestone PM and SRO to assist developing the yearly work plans for the Milestone.
  • Manage projects to time, cost and quality, delivering on the agreed requirements, realising the stated benefits and managing the expectations of key and strategic stakeholders and any commercial scope changes.
  • Ensuring an ethos of equity, inclusivity and diversity underpin your work activity, contributing to inclusive innovation across all Catapult activities.
  • You may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties to support the Catapult in achieving its strategic outcomes and ensure effective business operations.

    Strong knowledge and demonstrable experience of place-based innovation, Inclusive innovation and innovation around ports and place, digital and net zero.
  • Working knowledge of the maritime sector, Including awareness of current technology and market trends related to decarbonization and productivity.
  • Experience of convening and facilitating workshops and developing action plans.
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills to audiences of senior managers and policy makers. Experience of presenting complex stories and Information to diverse groups of stakeholders. Experience of writing business cases and funding bids.
  • Ability to effectively and proactively engage with and influence senior managers and decision makers.
  • Excellent Project Management skills with demonstrable experience of managing projects within both the public and private sector, to their agreed objectives. Ability to balance competing priorities and managing multiple activities.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a fluid programme of policy research and advocacy, including a willingness to accept secondment or postings within other organisations or government departments to best support the delivery of the role's objectives.
  • Desirable:
  • Working knowledge of funding and finance mechanisms for major Infrastructure or procurement projects.
  • Awareness of the Innovation cycle and how complex Innovation led projects are conceived.
  • A familiarity with the culture and people of the North West.
  • Experience of working for maritime, investment, research or civic leadership organisations.
  • Experience of interacting with governance boards.
