Your Role and What You'll Be Doing The Client Insight & Experience team is responsible for developing and delivering high quality, targeted and insightful legal, business, strategic, market and competitor research and analysis to colleagues across the Irwin Mitchell Group As a Lead Researcher, you will take responsibility for our Personal Injury and Medical Negligence business units, prioritising work and managing research quality through proactive quality assurance. You will directly produce more complex research reports and analysis on an individual basis, as well as adopting any agreed subject matter specialism within the wider Insight team. This role does not currently have line management responsibility, but experience of guiding and mentoring more junior researchers would be valued. Your responsibilities will include the following:
- Lead cyclical and ad hoc research and business intelligence for Personal Injury and Medical Negligence units.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME), providing comprehensive research to support the Group's strategy, including bids, priority clients, targets, industry benchmarking, and M&A activity. This research will be complex and targeted for the executive audience, sectors/specialisms as agreed, synthesising key facts and trends, providing clear insight and analysis and identifying threats and opportunities for the business.
- Utilise Manzama, our Knowledge Hubs and the Horizon Tracker to facilitate timely and targeted identification and flagging of key opportunities and updates which are of operational or strategic importance to the Group.
- Coordinate with other research contributors and actively participate in key business groups and forums.
- Manage the delivery of high-quality, timely, and insightful research and analysis, ensuring alignment with Group strategic objectives.
- Utilise internal and external resources to deliver comprehensive research reports, ensuring reliability and validity.
- Ensure research presentation is accessible and appropriate, using advanced Microsoft tools for report delivery.
- Deliver bespoke current awareness services to support horizon scanning and keep the business updated on legal and business developments.
- Handle research requests professionally, ensuring high satisfaction levels.
- Maintain and develop personal skills in research techniques and tools, acting as a role model.
- Review and supervise research work, providing guidance and training to researchers.

- Previous experience in the areas of legal, competitive and business research, or other forms of research. Experience of medical research (e.g. NHS data) in or outside of the legal industry is particularly valued.
- Successful track record operating as a member of an Insight, Business Intelligence, Information Services, Knowledge Management or a related team, preferably in a legal environment.
- Proven experience of delivering business research, including client, target, competitor and market research.
- Experience in Executive Board level reporting and stakeholder management
- Excellent IT skills with proven high proficiency in the full range of Office applications, with the ability to identify and use the most appropriate product to conduct and present research in a format which best suits the needs of the requestor.
- A commitment to maintaining personal professional development and technical capability with new and existing research techniques and online/offline research tools to enable best practice and efficient approach to services.
- Experience with using current awareness aggregator tools such as Manzama.
- Experience of successfully using a request management system to manage workflow.
- Line management experience desirable
