In accordance with that objective the mission of the Markets Team is to operate Markets that are the "heart of the place". Celebrating local services and local produce in a safe and friendly environment. The service is part of the Regeneration and Strategy Directorate of Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council. It holds regulatory franchise rights on behalf of the Council for the operation of market type events throughout the district and presently operates 7 retail venues in various locations at Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Elland, Sowerby Bridge, Todmorden and Brighouse over a 7 day week period. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi award winning team at a time when positive changes are being made which include a number of facilities improvements and a staffing reorganisation. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join our Market Service to undertake the role of Market Operative who will be responsible for assisting the Market Attendants in the daily operation of the Councils Markets. Responsibilities will include; general cleansing duties, securing of premises and regulation of entry and trading, site supervision in accordance with Health and Safety requirements, minor maintenance and the erection and dismantling of market stalls. The Successful applicant will be required to liaise with Traders in relation to service provision and all related matters ensuring Halifax Borough Market is maintained in a safe, secure and hygienic condition to the benefit of all stakeholders and in accordance with all legislative requirements. Excellent customer service standards are required along with the understanding of who the key stakeholders are, ensuring that effective engagement takes place in delivering a first class service. Health and Safety is also a service priority and you will be required to proactively encourage a positive health and safety working environment ensuring that staff and stakeholders work safely at all times.

  • Ability and willingness to travel around the district to meet the needs of the service.
  • An understanding of the importance of establishing effective working relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to learn - to undertake training to facilitate safe operations and methods of work and any other forms of training that may be appropriate.
  • Effective people skills - must be able to support and effectively work with others to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Experience of cleaning and sanitising in a commercial or industrial setting
