Full Job Description

Thames & Hudson, the foremost publisher of illustrated books on the visual arts, is looking for a visually talented and technically able, part-time marketing photographer to create/shoot, retouch and organise product photography for its website, online retail partners and for use in print and digital formats including social media, catalogues and more. The ideal candidate will also be able to create occasional unboxing, flick-through and stop motion videos. This is a 3-to-4-day a week role, to be agreed on hiring, with the potential for overtime when needed, which will be based in the photography studio at our new offices near Kings Cross, following our office move in February 2025. Primarily, this work will be producing photography for the marketing team, but there is overtime capacity to undertake work for other teams, for example design, production and rights, subject to agreement by all parties and availability. The Role - Photographing all of our books and products for our website and social media channels, to include packshots, box shots (for our gifts and games) and interior spreads and contents - Efficiently creating a high volume of shots for our product ranges for the UK and overseas offices, to include some foreign-language editions - Preparing your working set, checking that all equipment and consumable materials are fully functional and correctly maintained. - Sourcing supplies in consultation with your manager, as required. - Occasionally creating seasonal or range-based styled photography for visual merchandising for both online and print promotion - Post-production of images using Adobe Photoshop, Capture One/Lightroom and other tools - Occasionally creating product videos (unpacking videos), flick-throughs, GIFs and stop-motion videos - Occasional offsite / studio shoots - Occasional portrait photography (staff / authors) - Opportunity to undertake some editorial photography shoots for other departments on an overtime basis (subject to experience and editorial approval / needs) - Taking ownership and responsibility for the quality of your output - Creating a consistent and organised workflow to ensure that deadlines are met and the digital assets are loaded to shared systems

Candidates must have experience in organising and a running a product photo shoot, working within an ecommerce photographic studio or good freelance experience with ecommerce photography - Ability to manage the studio workflow, arrange book deliveries and filing systems, communicate effectively with colleagues around the business and in the global subsidiaries and keep the work on track and at a high visual quality - Editing, recolouring and retouching experience is essential - Knowledge of studio lighting and maintaining colour consistency across images - Good knowledge of Photoshop, Capture One/Lightroom and Canon photography equipment as well as video editing - Knowledge of Ortery Photo Bench 360 and software desirable - Knowledge of Mac OSX computing platform - Creative with a strong visual eye and an interest in the visual arts - Self-starter: energetic, organised and self-motivated - Good at juggling priorities and deadlines - Very good attention to detail and communication skills - Flexible and collaborative: open to feedback from others - Forward-thinking, with interest in how photography is evolving in terms of tools, trends and software Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.

Note: Though we have a hybrid working policy at Thames & Hudson, because this role is largely studio-based, it will not be possible to work from home or remotely for the most part.
