Full Job Description

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic candidate to the role of Maternity Specialist Risk Midwife. This is a senior midwifery post working closely with Trust leads, Associate Director of Midwifery, Consultant Lead for risk, Professional Midwifery Advocate, Research and Practice Development Midwife. The post holder will work within the Risk Management Framework and has responsibility for leading on all aspects of risk management within maternity and gynaecology. The main purpose of the post is to:

  • Give advice on risk management issues related to service provision within the Maternity and Gynaecology services.
  • Be responsible for coordinating risk management and support the Associate Director of Midwifery & Clinical Governance leads in overseeing risk management throughout the maternity services.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director of Midwifery and Consultant leads to provide a systematic Risk Management Strategy, which aims to improve patient safety and reduce adverse outcomes, within the Clinical Governance Agenda.

Our specialist services include HIV, cardiology, blood disorders, diabetes, fertility, sickle cell and thalassemia. In addition to a full range of cancer diagnosis and treatment services, the Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centre is based on-site and provides services to support cancer patients' wellbeing. We also provide community services and have a dedicated 0-19 service for children and young people in Enfield so that they can get the best possible start in life. This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families.,
  • Act as an effective role model, support the Associate Director of Midwifery in setting, monitoring and maintaining high standards of midwifery care within the maternity service.
  • Lead the monitoring and investigation of clinical incidents in conjunction with the lead clinician/consultant for clinical governance.
  • Recommend and monitor action plans working closely with the maternity management team.
  • Risk assesses changes to practice and service provision ensuring the safety of the mother and baby are paramount.
  • Monitor compliance to the Maternity Risk strategy, ensuring all staff working in the maternity service are aware of the document and their responsibilities
  • Ensure the risk management database is completed, taking the lead for identifying and analysing trends.
  • Produce reports and newsletters for the clinical governance committee meeting.
  • Act as deputy for clinical governance committee when required.
