An exciting opportunity has arisen within a new Maternity Tobacco DependencyService, working at Queens Hospital Burton. We are looking to appoint a TobaccoDependency Advisor to support the Maternity Tobacco Dependency Treatment Team. This is a unique opportunity to join a developing service, as well assupport and contribute toward the existing Staffordshire Integrated StopSmoking in Pregnancy Service at Everyone Health Staffordshire. This role is availablefull time or part time, and will be based at Queens Hospital, Monday Friday.This service may further develop with evening and weekend work. TheMaternity Tobacco Dependency Advisor will be responsible for supporting maternitypatients throughout Burton Hospital, to deliver Stop Smoking or TemporaryAbstinence support, and providing personalised treatment plans, provisionof pharmacotherapy and a discharge plan. This will be a challenging but extremely rewardingrole. If you are enthusiastic, motivated, and looking to make a big difference, thenthis is the role for you!, TheTobacco Dependency Advisor will deliver one to one stop smoking interventions withincommunity and hospital settings, within the maternity services. Predominantlysupporting Staffordshire residents, the post holder will be required to workflexibly as the role may later involve evening / weekend work. Thispost will Provide information to smokers to enable themto make an informed choice to make an attempt to stop smoking and then tosupport the smoker with a formal evidence based quit programme. Develop and improve accessibility of the Staffordshire'sHealth Communities Service and Stop Smoking in Pregnancy Service through thepro-active promotion of the smoking cessation programmes and referral pathwaysamongst primary and secondary care services, other key health care providers,allied professionals, community development initiatives, local agencies and thegeneral public. Provide ongoing support to a caseload ofreferrals, supporting each quit attempt in line with Saving Babies Lives v3, nationaland company standards. Contribute to the planning, delivery anddevelopment of the stop smoking in pregnancy service including specific projectwork. The Tobacco Dependency Advisor will be responsiblefor supporting Maternity inpatients and antenatal care throughout BurtonHospital, to deliver in-house Stop Smoking support, and providing personalisedtreatment plans, provision of pharmacotherapy and a discharge plan. Thispost will also In conjunction with the Clinical Delivery teamswill lead, plan and deliver an appropriate and accessible cessation servicewithin the delivery team area. Provide cessation support including in-depthone to one behaviour change support, assessing clients readiness and suitabilityfor Stop Smoking treatments. Conduct telephone calls, maintain accuratepatient notes and records, and complete service-specific administration tasksas required. Adhere to service protocols and procedures inrelation to the provision of supportive pharmacotherapy medication. Collate accurate clinical records in line withnational requirements NHS England, OHID and NCSCT and inputting data into theservice web-based database in a timely and professional manner. Support the delivery of promotion activityacross Staffordshire in line with the service marketing strategy. Work flexibly to provide a coordinated serviceacross the localities to meet the needs of the client group. This will includework in the evening and some work on weekends where required. Maintain up to date clinical knowledge,undertake evidence-based practice and promote the use of new and innovativepractice. In conjunction with delivery team lead,conduct analysis and evaluation of designated programmes in order to improvethe quality of service. Be responsible for identifying issues orconcerns to line manager, so that appropriate action can be taken. Contribute to ongoing needs assessment, auditand other governance programmes in relation to activities as part of the healthimprovement agenda., In conjunction with the Clinical Delivery teamlead plan and deliver an appropriate and accessible cessation service withinthe delivery team area. To takeresponsibility for own professional development in accordance with the outcomesfrom the annual development review, in order to meet the requirements of theKnowledge and Skills Framework and appraisal system Inconjunction with the delivery team lead and specialist advisors, business &performance, marketing and remote access to support the promotion of the stopsmoking service Responsiblefor accurate uploading of own client data onto database whilst ensuring clientconfidentiality. Ensurefollow up of clients is done in line with service protocol Keepaccurate records in accordance with trust policy and data protection To assistin keeping reports up to date, to allow analysis of data to contribute towardsimproving service delivery and better client care Ensuringto use Making Every Contact Count skills to increase clients motivation andadherence to stop smoking. Requiredto contribute to training, seminars and presentations across a range ofagencies and organisations.

  • Be NCSCT Certified orwilling to gain the qualification
  • Have previousexperience of working as a Stop Smoking Advisor
  • Or have previousexperience working within a hospital, maternity or a clinical environment.
  • We would liketo hear from you if you : Have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Possess a minimum of 1 year experience working in a community-based smokingcessation service. Are experienced in using behaviour change models. Can demonstrate a clear understanding of the range and appropriate use ofdifferent smoking cessation interventions. Display strong knowledge of the harmful effects of smoking, smoking as anaddiction behaviour, withdrawal, and relapse. Are flexible with working day. Possess good time management and planning skills. Are interested inmotivating and supporting both individuals in virtual and community-basedsettings. Can raise publicawareness and provision of consistent healthy lifestyle messaging, on issuesrelevant to the health of the community and in a multi-cultural setting.,
  • Being able to demonstrate putting service users first and delivering a high-quality service.
  • Evidence of being adaptable and quick thinking.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in community, primary care, maternity or in-patient settings.
  • Experience of working with adults in a 1-2-1 and group environment, to support positive lifestyle change.
  • Experience of using behaviour change models within a work context
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural setting with patients of different cultures, genders and ages.
  • Experience of working to challenging performance targets and achieving excellent outcomes

  • Sound knowledge of delivering smoking cessation interventions and advising on smoking cessation to special populations.
  • Understanding of harmful effects of smoking, smoking as an addicting behaviour, withdrawal and relapse
  • Knowledge of NICE guidance, NCSCT and PHE standards relating to the treatment of smoking cessation
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Patient Confidentiality Act, Safeguarding and the Data Protection Act.
  • Knowledge of maintaining records and monitoring system., Education to GCSE Standard at grades A-C for a minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Mathematics and English language or literature.

  • NCSCT Smoking Cessation Certified.
  • Training will be provided however health degree or equivalent is advantageous., Knowledge of public health policy, the wider determinants of health and health promotion, relating to long term health condition.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload; able to work effectively and able to remain positive and constructive under pressure

  • Evidence of experience in embracing and implementing change to provide high quality health outcomes
