Full Job Description

We are a 11-16 academy based in the market town of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, on the eastern edge of the Erewash Valley which separates Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. We became part of the Outwood Family of Schools in 2022 and are yet to be inspected by Ofsted.

We are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning.

We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. With a holistic view of education, we aim to create a safe and secure learning community that encourages healthy and sustainable lifestyles and empowers students to pursue career pathways they will find stimulating and deeply rewarding.

As we continue to improve and progress, help to take us to the next level.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher to join our Mathematics department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people. Our single goal is 'Students First' and you will be joining a strong team of professionals working to this sole aim.

Outwood Academy Kirkby provides a high-quality learning and cultural environment that inspires and motivates children. Whether you are ambitious for progression or determined to be an outstanding classroom teacher, Outwood Academy Kirkby is the place for you. Leadership development, succession planning and capacity building are major priorities for the Trust as this enables us to facilitate rapid progression for those who want to advance either in the classroom or at a leadership level.

You will be well supported by an experienced team of teachers and Directors as you work to raise attainment levels and offer an engaging curriculum experience that focuses on teaching for understanding.

The Academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which affords opportunities for staff to work and progress across several schools if desired. All staff are guaranteed a minimum of two hours CPD per week and a further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through our own network of teaching schools. Our Executive Director for Maths leads the Yorkshire and the Humber Maths Hub and there are masses of opportunities for you to get involved in the fantastic projects they run.

The successful applicant will be given a permanent Outwood regional contract in the first instance. Their base for 2024/25 will be Outwood Academy Kirkby as maternity cover. For September 2025, we will work with the colleague to fix a permanent base, either at Kirkby or a neighbouring Outwood School - paying due notice to home location and curriculum need.

We think you will be impressed by the welcoming and supportive atmosphere at the academy. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the role please contact Stacey Atkins (Director of Maths) at s.atkins@outwood.com who will be pleased to tell you more, either by email or telephone, and we would be delighted to welcome you on a visit if you would like to see us in person.

If you share our vision, join our family.
