Full Job Description

This is an exciting time for the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital (RACH), we are increasing our team of Matrons within Children's Services and are looking to appoint a Matron to become our Emergency Care Lead.

You will have the opportunity to help shape the future direction of the department and take part in hospital wide initiatives to improve Emergency Care and the patient experience across the whole of the acute pathway.

We are keen to hear from individuals who have experience at working at a senior nurse level within a children's emergency care environment and are keen to embrace change and provide visible nursing inspiration.

You will provide leadership and direction to our dedicated Children's Emergency Department team and more widely will input your specialist knowledge and expertise to the emergency departments within our three other hospital sites.

As Matron you will have responsibility for the delivery of high quality, responsive, safe and effective care that improves patient outcomes and patient experience. Proven skills and a working knowledge of leading, and an ability to demonstrate excellent communications skills are required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Directorate Lead Nurse and Clinical Director to ensure that high quality patient focused care is delivered within the Children's Emergency Department (CED) and throughout the RACH.

The post holder will lead and manage the Senior Sister/Charge nurse team, PENP team and the ACORNS (Acute Children's Outreach Nursing Service) lead nurse to ensure that high quality patient focused care is delivered within the Children's Emergency Department (CED).

The post holder will also assume responsibility for the management of individuals/teams as indicated in the structure diagram within the JD.

The post holder will actively participate in the clinical and operational management of the department; working collaboratively with the Nurse Consultant (emergency paediatrics) to ensure on-going service development and the delivery of exemplary care to children, young people and their families.

The post holder will act as a highly visible, clinical leader and role model whilst ensuring the provision of quality patient care, sharing expertise with colleagues.

The post holder will lead the governance assurance framework for Children's Emergency and Ambulatory Care.

The post holder will promote learning, professional curiosity and hold others to account.

The post holder will lead the educational and training programmes for their designated teams working in collaboration with our Practice Development teams.
