Full Job Description

  • The post holder will provide strong clinical and professional leadership and management to the paediatric nursing team in the Emergency Department (ED). The clinical leadership will focus predominately on the Paediatric ED but professional management and service improvement will include themes applicable to the entire department.
  • This post will require a flexibility as the needs of the service require. There will be a requirement to work closely with the ED matron and senior nursing team to ensure that the matron workload is met and delivered. This role is not exclusive to Paediatric ED and the post holder will need to be comfortable working in adult ED and develop their skills as necessary, particularly with regards to governance and leadership.
  • The post holder will develop and influence the strategic direction of the Paediatric ED within Royal London Hospital, Barts Health and the wider healthcare economy and be critical to the development of a service improvement agenda for paediatric services in the context of Emergency Services at the Royal London Hospital.
  • It is expected the Lead Nurse spends not less than 60% on planned clinical activity. The remaining 40% will comprise strategic leadership, management and service improvement functions. The post holder must therefore possess expertise in clinical management, risk evaluation, change management and service improvement.
