Full Job Description

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham is proud of it track record in delivering excellent care to our patients. As such, we are currently looking for a dynamic, creative thinking leader to join our team as Matron for Theatres.

The Trust is an Orthopaedic tertiary centre, with 14 theatres delivering complex elective orthopaedic surgery supporting specialist oncology and spinal services. The successful individual will be part of a senior team managing theatre services, prioritise the needs of patients who require our expertise., This is an interim post for 6 months. You will be supported in the role however in terms of leadership and management we want you to hit the ground running, the subject specialists will manage the list.

As a senior leader in our Trust you will work collaboratively with the Clinical Services Manager and Clinical Medical Lead for Theatres. The role of the Matron will focus on the provision of high-quality care, visibility, professional leadership and have a clear remit of setting and maintaining standards of clinical excellence, improving outcomes and experiences for patients.

1. To provide strong and effective leadership for all health care workers.

2. To work with the Divisional Head of Nursing and Clinical Services Manager to ensure high quality care for service users and in particular be accountable for the theatre staff development and professional standards.

3. The day-to-day operational management of the Theatre Suite with guidance form theatre experts (cluster leads): including allocation of staffing.

4. Managing and being accountable for the Theatre financial resource ensuring that it remains within budget.

Continuing professional development is encouraged and you will be expected to promote and participate actively in education, clinical governance, audit and guidelines. You will be encouraged to take part in the wide range of educational and training opportunities.

The successful applicant does not need to need to demonstrate theatre experience however must be interested in learning about the department and keen for a career stretch.

We are looking for an individual who is flexible, innovative, highly motivated with great people and leadership skills who wants to learn and develop within a challenging and exciting role.

You will be strong leader who is able to demonstrate proven ability to successfully lead and motivate the clinical team and be a positive and professional role model.

You must have excellent communication and influencing skills to both initiate and support change together with the tenacity and passion required to drive success.
