We have an exciting opportunity for an Senior Mechanical Architect to work for an ambitious, highly regarded, scientific engineering / technology business that are in a position of sustained growth.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within a Mechanical Architecture division for a skilled Mechanical Architect to join a dynamic team.

Mechanical Architects, play a pivotal role in all stages of product development, from initial feasibility studies to series production and ongoing in-service support. Your key responsibilities will include capturing and managing requirements to ensure product system performance meets specifications, deadlines, and budget targets. You will be responsible for justifying designs, coordinating verification activities to demonstrate performance, and ensuring that functional and mechanical requirements are implemented across all sub-assemblies.

    The primary duties of a Mechanical Architect encompass:
  • Analysing the overall product structure, mechanical interfaces, and architecture

  • Conducting architectural trade-offs in collaboration with key stakeholders

  • Promoting adherence to key design principles such as modularity, reusability, and design for assembly

  • Assessing technology maturity and design complexity at the systems level

  • Defining hardware requirements at System level

  • Providing support during product design and program phase gate reviews

  • Managing technical relationships with suppliers to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery

  • Tracking and managing assigned budgets effectively

  • Providing technical guidance and oversight to engineers within the team

    Ideally educated to degree level, or equivalent experience

  • Experience of electro-mechanical & mechanical design

  • Experience developing proving logic and leading the generation of compliance evidence

  • Dedication to work towards delivery timelines and budgets

  • Proven track record to foster, and work in, collaborative teams

  • Ability to work in an international environment and understand cultural issues

  • We are also interested in a good awareness of broader engineering fields, such as Materials, Tolerancing, Configuration Control, Vibration, Shock, Fatigue, Six Sigma & Lean Design, Systems Engineering V-model, DFMEA


  • You should be able and willing to gain (UK Eyes only) security clearance, potentially to DV level in the future. For this department, we can only accept applications for Sole British National only, due to the specific classification of this role.
