Full Job Description

As a Mechanical and Electrical Fitter, you'll be a key member of the London South team supporting Substations at Wimbledon, Beddington, New Cross and Bexley and the largest overhaul of the UK electricity grid in generations, essentially we're upgrading the electricity grid so it's fit for the future. Its BIG work and you will play a BIG part ensuring the lights stay on and society keeps moving.

  • A minimum Level 2/3 recognised apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering OR an NVQ/Level 3 electrical or mechanical qualification with the relevant fitting experience is required.
  • You can demonstrate good all-round engineering skills - Key skill areas we look for are working to Safety Procedures, Mechanical Fitting, Electrical Fitting, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Working at Height, Lifting Operations, Panel Wiring, and Fault Finding.
  • A Full UK Driving Licence.
  • You can use a computer.
  • Due to the nature of our work, you live within a 45 min commute of Wimbledon, Beddington, New Cross or Bexley.

    £49,094 pa = Starting Salary £36,774 pa + £10,525 pa London Allowance + £1,795 pa Seasonal Working Allowance.

  • Fitter Overview Mechanical and Electrical Fitters take on the responsibility of a wide range of engineering duties on Substation plant and equipment. This work is predominately outdoors and includes installation of new equipment, refurbishment and maintenance of existing equipment, fault investigation and repair as well as routine condition monitoring in line with commercial targets. You'll benefit from our industry-leading training at our facilities based in Eakring, Nottinghamshire and other substation sites, a training programme will be provided which will may require occasional stays away from home, with generous mobility and overnight allowances. You'll join a team of fitters and get to work on complex 275kV or 400kV circuit breakers, transformers, high speed on load tap changers and cable systems, plus all kinds of ancillary equipment such as DC battery systems, air compressors, diesels generators. Throughout the year there are some requirements for weekend work which overtime will be paid. We offer on-the-job and formal training opportunities for development.
