Full Job Description

  • A degree, degree apprentice or demonstrable time served in an appropriate engineering discipline., As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. As a leading provider of naval ship support and maintenance we design, build, assemble, maintain, and upgrade international warships, delivering through-life support across the globe, ensuring that the UK Royal Navy and international navies go to sea safely.
  • Building on the success of the UK MOD Type 31 Frigate we have secured contracts for frigate export variants (AH140) with overseas customers. As well as supporting exports of frigates the engineering team is actively working on other ship newbuild and life extension programs around the world, from small fast attack craft all the way up to aircraft carriers. We are looking to significantly expand our engineering and ship design teams to exploit these opportunities as well as our continuing work on in-service Naval platforms. Day-to-day, you'll work within a team to develop and deliver commercially viable products/systems, in line with the company's strategy growth plans. Technical governance will be provided from Subject Matter Experts, Engineering Managers and Chief Engineers.
  • Undertake analysis, simulations, and design calculations in support of mechanical and marine systems throughout the design lifecycle, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of engineering outputs.
  • Preparation of technical reports, calculations, drawings, P&IDs, material lists, operating/installation/commissioning procedures, and other engineering documentation.
  • Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.
  • Support field test to validate design assumptions or demonstrate system performance.
  • Work collaboratively with design teams, production, supply chain and other stakeholder groups to ensure coordination and functionality of design, including supporting design reviews.
  • Contribute to product and process safety systems workshops (HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA's)
  • Focus on continuous improvement for all stages of new product/system development. Seek to continually learn and improve knowledge to successfully develop products that will meet our customers' needs and requirements.
  • This role is full time OR part time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home. Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to consider flexible, blended working, including part-time, condensed hours, and job sharing. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.

  • Technical competence for the above responsibilities
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and MathCAD
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering design solutions.
  • Experience working to design codes and regulatory bodies
  • Experience in working collaboratively in multi-discipline teams
