Full Job Description

We are recruiting a Mechanical Engineers at varying levels to join our Fusion team, which has recently won several important projects and has a host of exciting new opportunities in research, engineering, operations and decommissioning. As one of the newest departments our CMS business area, we are regularly involved in delivering on exciting bids and projects with several different fusion clients and as such the ideal candidate needs to be someone with an engineering background, who has a demonstrable track record of contributing to or leading projects effectively. This role will be based in our Birchwood, Harwell or Culham office and there may be a need for periodic visits to client sites, as projects require The Fusion Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of fusion projects for multiple customers in the UK and internationally, moreover they will:

  • Dependent on experience contribute within or oversee project teams in the delivery of mechanical based work in the definition, implementation and execution of engineering work packages to support innovative solutions for clients
  • Delivery of high quality technical documentation, for example engineering calculations, specifications, datasheets and reports
  • Clear underpinning of decision process with respect to preferred solutions
  • Work collaboratively with team members
  • Consideration of conventional and nuclear safety in all work
  • Presentation of engineering solutions to clients and at design reviews
  • Liaise with the in-house manufacturing team and suppliers and be able to act as the intelligent customer, clearly defining requirements and assuring delivery to the technical specification
  • Conduct, assess, and review trials work to determine an optimum solution for the client
  • Ensure that the mechanical functional, performance and safety requirements of the engineering solutions are met including being actively involved in verification and validation activities
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or other relevant engineering discipline) or demonstrable equivalent underpinning knowledge and understanding with relevant industry experience
  • Attained or working towards Chartered Engineer status with an appropriate professional institution

    Health and Safety Focus, awareness or experience of Construction, Design and Management Regulations 2015 is desirable
  • Proactive and driven approach to work, taking ownership of the tasks required to be completed under their remit
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with other team members
  • Competent technical report writing skills: clearly and concisely reporting findings
  • Comfortable working under time and cost constraints
