Full Job Description

You will be working for the Industrial Means and Maintenance team within the UK Manufacturing organisation based in Stevenage. The tasks will be varied and require you to use different skills in order to complete them successfully. As a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice the type of placements you will undertake may include:

  • Define, develop and supply of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and tooling for the manufacture, test and delivery of satellite and spacecraft structures and products.
  • Work closely with other Manufacturing Assembly, Integration & Test (MAIT) teams to ensure requirements are fully understood and met.
  • To convert requirements into hardware ensuring safety, legal and company specifications are followed and met.
  • Support Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery & people activities and initiatives.
  • To develop and build relationships both internally and externally and work as part of a team.
  • Suggest process improvements considering business benefits.
  • A Level 6 apprenticeship includes regular training with a University, college or other training organisation. Approximately 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying. Training will take place at a location different to your normal place of work and trainees are expected to make their own arrangements to travel to and from work and their place of study. A mentor or coach will be available to support you through your learning journey.

    In order to be eligible to this apprenticeship, you must have a minimum of:
  • 120-128 UCAS points made up of 3 A levels at B or above which must include Maths and a Physics or Engineering based subject
  • OR
  • A minimum of 2 HL subjects at grade 4 or above which must include HL Maths and Physics
  • OR
  • A BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering at a minimum of DDM with a Merit or above in Further Maths unit or equivalent subject to validation
  • OR
  • 30 Level 3 credits at Distinction to include Maths or Science or Principles units. The remaining 15 L3 credits must be at merit
  • AND
  • GCSE Maths and English Language at 4/C or above or equivalent subject to validation
  • The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate the following skills:
  • The ability to listen, understand and communicate information.

  • A strong interest in developing yourself.
  • Interest in finding creative solutions to complex problems.
