Full Job Description

Marketing and Recruitment Strategy is aligned to four institutional objectives (a
distinctive academic portfolio and approach to teaching and learning; research

engaged in real world problems; promoting Goldsmiths as a cultural hub; preparing
students for the future job market).


The team covers internal communications, media relations, strategic
communications, brand and design, digital (website, video and social media),

marketing, business partnering, UK and International recruitment. Colleagues are
encouraged to be ambitious, committed to the learning and development of

themselves and others, keen to work across conventional boundaries, and driven by

the desire to play their part in the delivery of an excellent student, colleague and
external audience experience., This is a pivotal role as Goldsmiths seeks to raise awareness of its work - academic

research, student achievements, world-leading teaching, innovation and community

engagement - amongst its key audiences through a range of communications
activity and channels.


Main duties:

Work to raise the profile of Goldsmiths academics and students by writing content for

owned and earned channels, with objectives which align with the College's overall
strategy.


Deliver social media content to positively enhance Goldsmiths' reputation and

leverage coverage in print and broadcast media




Be part of a team monitoring mentions of Goldsmiths on social media


  • When required, be part of the out of hours media relations rota.



  • Build and create relationships with key internal stakeholders to promote their


  • work and gain their support and buy-in to media relations activity.


  • Ensure the upkeep of Press Office systems including the media enquiry log;


  • relevant webpages; news on the homepage; and leading on media monitoring
    including writing and circulating summaries of media coverage.




  • Work with the head of media to identify news angles on Goldsmiths storiess and


  • support staff and academics in their delivery.


  • Identifying suitable PR opportunities such as events and media partnerships that

  • align with our communications strategy.


  • Work to key strategic targets and report back to senior members of the team


  • through effective evaluation.


  • In addition, you will be required to undertake any other duties as may reasonably

  • At all times to carry out your responsibilities with due regard to the College's

    A degree or equivalent relevant qualification A, C, I
    Experience
    Strong experience in a press office or PR agency, working on a daily A, I, R
    basis with mainstream national news media
    Experience of handling institutional information and acting as a media
    spokesperson on sensitive issues
    Working out-of-hours on a rota basis, responding to mainstream national
    news media enquiries at unsociable hours (evenings, weekends,
    national holidays)
    Excellent contacts in the national media, ideally in education media
    Experience of organising events A, I
    Knowledge
    Professional knowledge of the media landscape in the UK; specifically A, I, R
    news-led print and broadcast outlets/programmes
    Knowledge of the international media landscape A, I
    A proven interest in Press and PR and in digital media A, I
    Professional knowledge of how a proactive Press Office functions in a A, I, R
    large organisation
    Professional knowledge of how effective media relations activity can A, I
    contribute to a wider marketing and communications strategy
    Skills
    Excellent interpersonal skills, good telephone and email skills and the A, I, R
    ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a wide variety of
    people
    Ability to develop content appropriate to the needs of specific social A, I, R, T
    media and digital platforms, Ability to write engaging and concise copy for a range of channels and A, I, R, T
    audiences, often to tight deadlines
    Proven news sense with the ability to spot a news hook/angle and A, I, R, T
    successfully pitch ideas to media
    Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range A, I, R
    of different individuals
    Ability to persuade, or negotiate with, senior colleagues with regard to A, I, R
    accepting your expert opinion and advice
    Experience of handling multiple projects to differing deadlines, with a A, I, R
    highly organised approach to work
    Excellent standards of English including accurate spelling and correct A, I, R, T
    use of grammar and spelling, and an eye for detail
    Ability to turn complex subject matter into tight, engaging news copy A, I, R, T
    IT skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word A, I, R
    Experience of using and uploading content to website content A, I
    management systems
    Flexibility and the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a A, I, R
    team
