Full Job Description

  • Reporting to one of our Heads of Media Relations in Retail Banking, you'll work in a busy, high profile media relations team, playing a key role in promoting and protecting the reputation of NatWest

  • You'll support the planning and delivery of integrated media campaigns, building strong working relationships with a wide range of journalists and leading on product, service, and campaign announcements

  • You'll manage complex media enquiries at pace to stay abreast of any media coverage for the bank, and you'll assist in the development of plans and messaging to mitigate any future issues

  • What you'll do

As a Media Relations Manager, you'll be providing excellent reputation management advice and support to key stakeholders across multiple parts of Retail Banking. You'll deepen your engagement with a network of journalists to make sure the Retail strategy is accurately communicated, while working with a range of colleagues in marketing, digital, social, internal comms, and public policy. As such, you'll ensure our communications are consistent and engaging across a range of channels.

    Day to day, you'll be:

  • Securing positive media coverage for the bank by making sure that proactive media plans are in place and working with agency partners

  • Preparing press releases and media materials and identifying and securing spokesperson opportunities for key stakeholders in support of our narrative

  • Collaborating across the Communications function to integrate digital, colleague, and public policy engagement into our storytelling

  • Measuring, evaluating, and benchmarking campaign effectiveness against other financial services and consumer campaigns to perform against regular KPIs

  • Continually improving both our proactive and reactive planning through the use of appropriate data

We're looking for a skilled and personable communicator who can influence across their peer group and a diverse range of functions, as well as support the leadership of Retail Banking. With experience in a similar role, you'll be able to demonstrate how you've gained editorial coverage through a range of channels and coordinated agency responses. Along with your experience of working with regional journalists, you'll have excellent contacts with personal finance and consumer journalists from a range of media outlets.

  • Additionally, you'll need:

  • Experience of dealing with the media, from the origination of PR campaigns through to their delivery

  • Up-to-date knowledge of social media, influencer relations, and the application of SEO in a PR context as well as multi-channel digital engagement

  • Thorough knowledge of current industry best-practice in public relations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • A strong grasp of political and economic issues and their applicability to financial services

  • The ability to prioritise effectively with a rapidly changing workload and work under significant pressure to meet deadlines
