Full Job Description

The overall purpose of the role is to ensure that the Trust has a robust training programme and assurance around the use of high-risk medical devices and to be the main expert resource in this area. This includes working effectively with clinical leads and the MDSO to respond to National Patient Safety Alerts where high risk medical device knowledge is required.

Incident investigation and supporting the Patient Safety and Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) Education plan are key components of the role is a key component of the role promoting learning and the safe use of medical devices across our Trust sites., 1. Establish, maintain and monitor an effective training needs analysis, policy and programme for the competency and use of high-risk medical devices,

2. Devise and deliver an annual programme of work including audits and be responsible for developing and meeting performance indicators,

3. Manage and deliver specialist training to groups of staff for high-risk Medical Devices and Oxygen across the Trust sites,

4. Provide clear and concise quarterly and annual quality assurance reports on training compliance, risks and incidents in relation to high-risk medical devices,

5. Ensure medical device incidents are reported in line with Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and Learning from Patient Safety Events (LFPSE),

6. Review incidents relating to medical devices providing recommendations and expert advice,

7. Provide authoritative and reliable advice in supporting healthcare staff in the safe use of high-risk medical devices,

8. Develop and maintain working relationships with the Practice Educator network to ensure consistent delivery of training,

9. Work with the head of clinical engineering and clinical and procurement teams advising on the acquisition of high-risk medical devices,

10. Monitor trials of high-risk medical devices
