Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Medical Examiner Officer to support and develop the Medical Examiner Service, which is based at the Queen's Hospital Burton site and the Royal Derby hospital site., You will be providing a professional, sensitive and compassionate service, dealing with bereaved relatives and aggrieved callers and be exposed to distressing and emotive situations. The role will require working closely with clinical and non-clinical staff, the Medical Examiners, Bereavement Office, and the Coroner's Office. The role is primarily based at the Royal Derby Hospital, but you will be expected to work flexibly between sites as the service requires. Advanced IT and literacy skills and experience of using a range of IT applications will be required. Applicants will be required to have completed the Medical Examiner Officer Core e-Learning modules prior to appointment.

You will have highly developed communication and organisational skills which will have been obtained by working in bereavement, clinical or similar role which will predominately support the Medical Examiner in the scrutiny of deaths which occur in the hospital. An excellent understanding of medical terminology and the death certification process is essential.
