Creative collaboration - Knowing strength comes from diversity, we combine our experiences, skills and talents, working together to find new and better ways to care., Medical Laboratory Assistants are responsible to work as part of the laboratory team, by assisting Biomedical Scientists to provide microbiological analysis of patient samples.
Routine work includes potential exposure and handling of human specimens of urine, faeces, sputum, cerebrospinal fluid, swabs of infected sites, pus, tissue, aspirated and drained fluids, and blood/serum.
·, · After training they will be required to carry out basic laboratory procedures and provide support to the Biomedical Scientists processing diagnostic specimens.
· Main duties will be in the Microbiology department (bacteriology, serology). Duties are performed to assist with basic laboratory tasks, many of which are common to all sections and are performed after training and under supervision.
· The post holder will be expected to undertake their duties in any section of the laboratory and will rotate at intervals into each section on a planned basis.
