Full Job Description
The post-holder will perform basic tasks to support the Biomedical Scientists within the Blood Sciences laboratories in accordance with Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs). The post holder will organise and receive samples ensuring they are processed in a timely manner, including samples analysed on site and referred to other laboratories, + To assist with the receipt and processing of samples in accordance with SOP's.
+ Undertake specimen reception and data entry with a high level of accuracy
+ Collection and delivery of transport bags and consumables to and from bus / taxi.
+ Assisting in preparing Blood Sciences and Microbiology samples for transport as needed
+ Undertake pre-analytical processing of samples such as centrifugation, and post-analytical tasks such as filing/archiving
+ Undertake general portering duties within Pathology
+ Assist in monitoring stock control of consumables held in the department

Flu Vaccination - What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.

The Blood Sciences department processes approximately 350,000 samples annually, striving to deliver the best possible service to our users. In this role, you will support Biomedical Scientists by receiving and managing samples to ensure they are processed efficiently and meet required turnaround times.
