Full Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant to help support the diagnostic work of the department, Perform work strictly according to current Standard Operating Procedures in order to facilitate the provision of accurate and timely reports.

Ensure all samples prepared for analysis and stored according to strict quality standards, as defined in departmental Standard Operating Procedures

Ensure that appropriate preventative maintenance has been carried out, and recorded, on basic laboratory instruments and equipment

Report to the Senior Biomedical Scientist if work/systems fail to meet the specified standards and/or Turnaround Times.

Assist in the production, review and amendment of Standard Operating Procedures.

Liaise with Senior Biomedical Scientist and Quality Manager to undertake audits and corrective action as required.

Good understanding of the potential risks when handling infectious samples

Safe handling of blood, urine, faeces, organs, other body tissue and hazardous materials according to departmental and Trust protocol

You are expected to at least have previous experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant or to have worked in a diagnostic laboratory. A key eye to details and working in an organised manner is crucial to this role.
