Full Job Description
The Post holder will act as a Health Care Scientist (HCS) / Medical Laboratory Assistant who assists BMS's at a high level of expertise and knowledge providing scientific services to patients and clients as an aid to clinical diagnosis.
Perform under indirect or direct supervision an extensive range of automated, semi-automated and manual techniques.
The post holder will undertake and assist in the reporting on biomedical investigations, utilising the appropriate testing to assist the Biomedical Scientists and thus ensure the correct clinical diagnosis.
To perform a range of microbiological technical and scientific activities, including testing samples referred from other NHS laboratories.
To assist in the monitoring, organisation and working of the department.
The post holder will have a multi-departmental role within Department of Microbiology., The scope of this role is to learn and maintain good laboratory practice in the interests of the departmental commitment to provide an efficient service and to become a positive member of a team or teams in the function of service provision. Previous extensive experience of working in a clinical microbiology laboratory is essential and a good standard of education (to GCSE level or equivalent) is necessary and as the department is computerised, keyboard skills would be a great advantage. You should be methodical and organised; with good communication skills and the ability to work effectively. Full training will be provided.You will be assisting Biomedical Scientists in receiving, preparing and examining clinical specimens and your duties will include the preparation of reagents, stock and record maintenance. Other duties include general clerical tasks, telephone enquiries and post. The laboratory is accredited by UKAS and we actively encourage CPD activities.
Only applicants with previous experience of working in a clinical microbiology laboratory will be considered.
