Full Job Description

As a Medical Secretary, you will maintain effective systems and provide high-quality secretarial and administrative services to the Medical Team. You'll also provide a communication link with the Medical Team, through liaising with patients, their families or carers, and external professionals.

You will have excellent IT skills, with confidence and knowledge working with different systems and packages, along with administrative and organisational skills, and some medical terminology knowledge. In addition, you will be expected to take competent decisions and actions, some of which will be without the immediate advice of the medical staff, using a range of skills, knowledge and a significant level of initiative.

Barbara Bennett, a Healthcare Assistant at Birmingham Hospice's Erdington site, was inspired to join the hospice after seeing the expert palliative care her dad, Frederick, received there. Having worked in healthcare for 30 years, Barbara decided it was time she went into palliative and end of life care after helping to care for her father when he was diagnosed with heart failure, kidney failure and dementia.
