Full Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team of Pharmacy and Nursing colleagues to prioritise patient safety and support medicines optimisation across our organisation. The post holder will lead and support our team of medicines management nurses who provide oversight of medicines practice across the Trust. The role involves managing a number of key projects, leading on staff training, policy development and incident management. The post holder will work closely with the Patient Safety Team and across multi-disciplinary teams to ensure staff are confident and competent in their ability to manage medicines, whilst providing ongoing assurance to our commissioners and the CQC. Alongside this, the post holder will lead on the Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) Strategy for the Trust. This will support the ongoing development of our Non-Medical Prescribing workforce and ensure such roles are considered and aligned to relevant teams to provide essential timely access to care, workforce development and cost efficiencies. You will be working alongside an outstanding Senior Leadership Team, with a wealth of experience and support available., The post holder will be a senior clinical nurse who will act as the Medication Safety Officer for the Trust and provide line management to the team of Medicines Management Nurses who support networks across the Trust. You will be responsible for ensuring that the systems and processes in place provide an appropriate framework for safe prescribing and administration of medicines by the appropriate professional groups and that assurance can be provided regarding the competency of such staff. The overall objectives of the post will be to optimise Medicines Management Systems within the Trust to ensure safe outcomes of patient care considering national and professional standards, learning from incidents and complaints. Alongside Medicines Management, the post holder will work with relevant stakeholders to lead Non-Medical prescribing across the Trust to ensure that staff are working safely and effectively within their competence to prescribe effectively for patients in their care, improving patients' access to medicines, through innovative business planning aimed at increasing choice and maximising benefits. They will ensure that the Non-Medical Prescribing agenda has high priority, e.g. through Service Development and integration of care pathways. There will be a requirement to travel to all localities in the Trust.
