Full Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic newly qualified Pharmacy Technician or Operational Support Officer to join our Medicines Management Team, who is driven by a passion for high quality services for our patients., The role will involve working as part of the multidisciplinary team within Primary and Secondary Care and working in partnership with the Quality team to review quality and safety and medicines management processes. This will include producing agreed action plans with recommendations in line with local and national guidance, which focus on NICE approved medications and the provision of approvals as well as audits and processing and reviewing data whilst still ensuring high quality, evidence-based prescribing for all patients.
You will liaise with GP surgeries and community pharmacies and care settings to improve the communication, around Medication related Incidents ensuring efficient monitoring and communication between teams to ensure patient safety ., To act as a point of contact dealing and responding effectively with complex queries from stakeholders and public, passing on relevant information to appropriate team members sensitively and
To assist in the preparation of a variety of documents including policies and procedures, often set to tight deadlines, requiring a high level of concentration and with frequent interruptions.
To use own initiative to plan time effectively and prioritise own workload on a daily basis including responding quickly and appropriately in relation to urgent, important, unpredictable and occasionally distressing issues ensuring a high level of service is provided.
To provide support for the management of the Blueteq hi-cost drugs management system.
To provide support to enable the validation of hospital invoices using Blueteq and raise challenges where appropriate.
To supply the relevant information required for financial management, by checking Blueteq approvals against patient details supplied and sending a request for invoices to be paid using Oracle.
To provide support for the HCM working group as required.
To ensure that monthly audits are carried out to ensure reliable data provision to the senior pharmaceutical advisor for HCM.
To support the medicines Incident Lead with the provision of further information where required to support the quality process for managing incidents within STW ICB.
To ensure that Medicines Management documents e.g. Patient Group Directions, Commissioning Policies, Prescribing Guidelines are up to date and flagged to the Deputy Director of Medicines Management/Pharmaceutical Advisers in a timely manner for review.
To review emails in Mailboxes and to provide support and information to enable reply.
To Support the medicines management team with projects providing Plans or supporting information as required.
To use computer-based systems to extract data to support the Medicines Management Team to deliver an effective service e.g. Oracle Analytics, Ulysses
To be responsible for the development of detailed Medicines Management databases: e.g.: NICE tracker
To be responsible for the maintenance of a logical filing system and ensure that all records are kept in such a way that they are easily retrievable and confidentiality is maintained, also ensuring that records are disposed of in accordance with the NHS Records Management policy.
To identify and report all risks to health and safety, security of equipment and property in accordance with ICB policies.
To maintain confidentiality of patient and prescribing data in line with ICB confidentiality
To work on own initiative within professional boundaries and within national/local protocols and legislation.
To act on own professional judgement on a daily basis with regard to making recommendations in respect of medicines management.
To undertake any other duties at the request of the line manager, which are commensurate with the role including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.
To participate fully in the development review (appraisal) process and undertake continuing professional development as required.
To deputise for the Senior Pharmacy Technician in the management of the Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) department.
All staff are expected to:
+ ensure the confidentiality and security of all information that is dealt with in the course of performing their duties in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and adhere to the principles of Caldicott;
+ be aware that the ICB operates a "Code of Conduct for handling personal identifiable information". They should become familiar with the "Code" and keep up to date with any changes that are made. Breaches of the guidelines in the "Code" could be regarded as gross misconduct and may result in serious disciplinary action being taken, up to and including dismissal;
+ comply with and keep up to date with the requirements of legislation such as the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Computer Misuse Act 1990;
+ ensure that staff maintain that the confidentiality and security of all information that is dealt with in the course of performing their duties is in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the principles of Caldicott; and
+ ensure that staff are aware of their obligations under legislation such as the Freedom of Information Act 2000; Computer Misuse Act 1990, and that staff are updated with any changes or additions relevant to legislation.

You will be a self-motivated individual who is able to work as part of a dedicated team. You will need to be able to prioritise work and understand the importance of key performance indicators, to demonstrate the difference made by your interventions.
You will have excellent communication skills and will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
